What we have here is a proof of concept game that manages to execute it well. While it doesn't offer an experience that is overwhelmingly deep it makes up for it with a charm and satisfying gameplay loop that complements its premise. Particularly with a creative weapon variety and more cow puns than you can shake a hoof at.

It may not be a game that'll demand hours of attention from you, but I smiled through the experience playing it and highly recommend that, even if you don't stick around to play for a long time, to give it a shot and play for a while. It's charms rather complement the execution and you can't beat the price.

Fight' N Rage offers what I believe is one of the most polished beat 'em ups on the market today. Offering a pure, challenging and ultimately rewarding experience once you master its mechanics. Taking what worked not only from the Beat 'em Ups this game took inspiration from but also fighting games to offer plays the chance to master this game on a level I haven't really seen from beat 'em ups since.

A few things the game does incredibly well are to give players a variety of options when it comes to the enemy variety that the game throws at you. Gal follows the typical speedy archetype, terrific at crowd control and movement even with her basic combo strings but lacks the punch to deal with tougher enemies, F. Norris is a mixture between the two that excels at having excellent tingle target and crowd control options, while Ricardo slams enemies like a bull in a world of china. Needing to either spend meter to deal with crowds or parry enemy attacks to deal with enemies charging at you to get past his limited mobility. To me it combines the best aspect of Streets of Rage 3 by giving everyone mobility options on the ground let the player go wild with combo setups or crowd control and also adding a parry to deal with oncoming attacks.

The soundtrack is excellently crafted by Gonzalo Varela, giving the game a soundtrack that can be both punch and atmospheric, something absolutely worth listening to when you have time. The overall visuals and framework harken back to the arcade era of old. Even down to the CRT screen bend and scanlines but thankfully giving the options to turn things off if they so choose. The story also allows users to make individual choices on how to proceed and genuinely mixes the game allowing for gameplay stages to change and alter, excellent for a beat 'em up setting. In addition, the game has a dearth of content to offer through the shop in addition to the battlemodes and time attack modes as well as shop items. Giving the player a variety of incentives to go back to the game.

If I had to levy any criticisms, it's that the game has a variety of different endings but a lot of them have you simply traversing similar stages making 100%ing the game more of a chore. This is also an incredibly challenging game, veterans of the Beat 'em Up genre will feel right at home here but newcomers may be deterred since this is a game that doesn't pull any punches when it comes to difficulty for newcomers and isn't great at explaining some of the intricacies to newer players. The tips added could've been implemented into the loading screens to help newer players along, and hiding it under the unlockable section seems like a strange pick. In addition this is a game that struggles to find an identity of its own since a lot of mechanics are borrowed from fighting games of the past and beat 'em ups without offering anything truly new. This is a game that's ripe to be expanded upon in the future and I hope it does so. I feel like the checkpoint system on easier difficulties would also benefit from being less strict to be less punishing to newer players. A minor complaint I could levy as well is the lack of weapon variety but that isn't this game's focus.

Understand this, any complaints I could levy about this game does not take away that this is simply one of the best playing beat 'em ups I have ever played. As a veteran of the genre I don't say that lightly. The parries and meter control offer depth the beat 'em up genre I haven't seen before or since and it just feels like an absolute blast to play and master. The combo system makes every character genuinely feel and play different and the challenge always felt incredibly tough but fair. Those who are new to the beat 'em up genre may find this too large of a wall to climb if they aren't playing it on easy. However for those who are veterans of the genre, I cannot recommend this game enough. It is a gem that is absolutely worth your time to play and stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the greats.

(Note: I did have to refund this game due to a bug that's been patched out but I have played this through the Nintendo Switch Version and the similarities between the two are distinct enough where the difference didn't matter much.)

Many people enjoy a nice challenge, many folks enjoy the Angry Video Game Nerd. Creating a game about the Angry Video Game Nerd seems like the next step in breaking the AVGN brand into a new medium seems like a natural progression. The end result, however, just ends up being a dull and charmless. The worst of it, just being downright dull.

The best way to take a look at the game would just be to start up at the top with the man whom the title is named after. The majority of the comedy of the AVGN is in his delivery, his facial expressions, and over the content of the game. That gets lost when the extent you see of his anger is a simple "This game is a bunch of diahrea ♥♥♥♥ coming out of a rabbits anus." readout in a slow text. It is true that a majority of the nerd's history is present in the game but it suffers the problem of being a reference alone without really adding much of anything unique to the game. (i.e. The Robot Jesus Christ being a general screen clearing attack.)

This extends to the game itself, while it's true you'll find a challenge here that isn't part of the problem. Challenge in itself can be dealt with if the core of the game itself is interesting and fun to play and that simply doesn't apply here. Across a generic song backdrop the game it plays almost exactly like run and gun flash game you play on the internet with generic challenges, all the while reading Angry Video Game quips slowly sprawled across the screen. The problem I had with the game itself was the challenges to the game being repeated ("Skull deathtraps") with each stage being a homage without doing anything really different to the formula that changes the game up in any reasonable manner.

It strikes of an idea that sounds interesting in paper but not in practice. Angry Video Game Nerd playing all of his past games he's slammed? Sounds like a reasonable and interesting idea. Playing the stages without varying the levels up to a significant degree? That's when the game starts going downhill. What could've been an interesting formula just descends into a dull and unexciting game that doesn't really justify spending the higher spending price. Angry Video Game Nerd fans will be mildly amused by the nods present in the game but as a whole the Nerd's style of humor doesn't translate well into text form leaving them dissapointed. People looking for a challenge will be turned off by the overall dull game play and design despite the colorful stages offering no incentive to continue playing. I'd skip this even if you are a huge fan of the Nerd.

As a fan of Earthworm Jim growing up this is an interesting case of nostalgia hitting up with what amounts to a lousy port.

Back in the SNES days Earthworm Jim was considered a fun game due to it's unique charm. Excellent gameplay, responsive controls, outrageous humor, terrific song and music, and fair difficulty. It's everything you want in a game, something that doesn't take itself too seriously and if you screwed up it wasn't the game's fault it's because you weren't good enough.

Some are present here, however the port wasn't a clean one.

Hit detection can be dodgy, missing levels, sounds that just aren't plumb there. Even among the poor ports out there this is probably the worst of the bunch.

If you want to get Earthworm Jim, I'd recommend the SNES/Sega/SegaCD ports. You're missing out by getting this even if you are a fan of Earthworm Jim.

For fans of old time adventure games such as Monkey Island or old Kings/Space quest games. It offers more of the same action. Gone are the textboxes in favor of the traditional inventory screen offering for an easier experience. The animation is shoddy, telling of a kickstarted game, but the graphics of the characters and backrounds stand out in a colorful manner.

For the fan who never owned the game or was never a big fan of adventure games, the most you're going to get out of the experience is just clicking everything with the various icons and watching the amusing reactions since, gameplay wise, there isn't much to it.

In summary, great for adventure gaming fans. If you aren't, and just want to hear some funny moments, wait for this to hit 80% off since it's good for a cheap laugh but wont offer anything really dynamic or interesting otherwise.

Doesn't quite live up to the Portal Standards of excellents but is a mildly mirthfull challenge of puzzle execution more than anything else.

In the choice between this and Portal however, choose Portal.

If for nothing else, this game is a blast to play if you're a fan of any of these fine franchises with over the top personalities of these psychopaths clashing in a unique and interesting (If repetitive after a period of time) manner. Go there for the experience and the laughs will come with it guaranteed.

This game has it all: Leigions of various specimens, Various playstyles for you to use, an intense final battle, and Cockneyed English blokes.

With the sale going on right now, you will not be dissapointed with this purchase.
