Very fun little indie horror game! Has enough extra content to be worth a replay or two too

FOMO monetization wasn't bad enough, you had to double down. Enough is enough.

Edit: They gave us heavier weight for AR start in 4v4 Team Slayer. It's a lot of fun, and I have high hopes they'll address other modes as well.

The game runs great. The issue isn't with how the game runs or what it is, the issue is with the current state of the multiplayer. Every single mode starts you with the DMR, a weapon that works just as well across the map as it does in melee range, a 4-shot kill. When every single player starts with one of these weapons, there's no reason to use any other weapon. If you try to use a shorter range weapon, you will get shot before you can close the distance. If you try to use a vehicle, you will get sniped out of the seat.

I will change this review to a thumbs up the second they let me play something other than DMR start, because currently 95%+ of the multiplayer content is unplayable because if you're not using the DMR, you're throwing.

Valve doesn't care. They created one of the best games in existence, still profit off of it, and they just let it rot in this state.

Don't bother downloading. I paid for this game back when it cost money, and I still think it's a ripoff at the current price point.

Devil Daggers is a love letter to the FPS's of old, to DooM and Quake, Hexen and Heretic. In this game you are tasked with one thing and one thing only: Survive. None of that crafting, or exploring, or building of the usual crop of new games, this game focuses on shooting, learning your weapon, and learning enemy patterns.

This game has no story, no multiplayer, nothing but surviving.

Buy this game. It's priced perfectly for the amount of content, it's insanely challenging, and extremely addicting.

Early Access Review
A few patches ago, the combat was so satisfying, you could react to people's actions, and win. If they blocked, you shoved, if they attacked, you blocked, if they shove you attack. You had time to drop your block and attack if you saw the shove coming, you had time to shove if you saw their block coming up, you had time to react, but the last few patches have slowly been adding more time where a shove staggers you after you drop the block, and things like that. So now, reacting is damn near impossible, because even if you drop your block in time they can still stagger you, so the combat that was so tight and satisfying when I bought the game devolved into "just guess what they're gonna do next and spam things".

On top of that, cheating scum teaming up in the game's main mode, Free For All have ruined this game for me. Free for all is 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1. There is a team mode, it's 2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2. but with teaming in free for all it becomes 2v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1. Those two players have a massive advantage over all of the solo players. For example, they can have one player attacking while the second player goes behind the victim and backstabs him (double damage) until he dies. It is nearly impossible to beat two players if you are solo.

I quit until they either revert the combat, fix teaming in FFA, or both.

I will happily reverse my review when they fix both of these problems, I love this game. At this time however, I find these issues to make the game unenjoyable.

Don't buy The Culling. Not unless you can go back in time and play the game it used to be. (and somehow magicly avoid teaming in FFA)
