The fixed camera, tweaked mechanics, co-op, and improved level design make this an easy recommend for me. I liked the original frogun quite a bit until trying to 100% the later levels that didn't really jive with the controls, but the revamped gameplay in this expansion seems to have fixed a lot of those issues, I suppose I'm not super far in but it's already a great time, especially with the co-op!

solid little gameboy aesthetic metroid-vania with very well done level design - less is definitely more here

Update with some of my critiques now that I've finished it:
The game runs into a couple issues later on, namely when it expects you to find some pretty arbitrarily hidden passages to progress. I don't mind extra content being hidden behind stuff like that, but needing to do that multiple times (the bone/arena boss, and the lighning/ghost ship boss) for main story progression and almost nowhere else in the game, was a flaw that got me stuck for some time.

On that note the backtracking gets pretty tedious once you've explored most everything and are powerful enough, lots of shortcuts that are only one-way for some inexplicable reason and really sparse and kind of uselessly positioned fast travel gates that you can't even use until you're pretty much done the game.

Additionally, the 30fps limit is true to the gameboy aesthetic, and probably the engine, but possibly because of that, it has some issues with eating inputs. Nothing major but the movement and shooting can get a little sticky.

Neither of these are really dealbreakers for me, solid little game with fun exploration and ability synergies, nice 2-bit sprite art, vibey chiptunes, and mostly smart level design that gets a little slowed down by a couple instances of questionable decisions

The only things this offers of any value are the upscaled textures (that honestly look way worse than the originals imo) and relatively solid controller support and split screen for PC... Everything else either doesn't work or is actively worse than the other versions available on steam.
