Anyone who wants to experince a very well developed 4x fantasy games HAS to buy this jewel.

The game ships with an amazing variety of playable units due a new system of races and leader specialitation.

As always Triumph is going to deliver their Editor tool so any map maker is going to ascend to the heavens anyway.

For a game that picks up the old 4x formular AoW3 improves on every aspect instead of dismissing certain features to improve old ones.

Woops, forgot to mention that his review is based on the closed beta.

Well, the 4X flaws you mention are inherent to the series.

Perhaps I should'Ve phrased that differently :S

I struggle to call this a solid 4X title considering Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, an RTS, had a better 4X game. There's only so much to exploit when there are only two resource values, and expansion gets pretty humdrum when each city has the same set of building upgrades.

Yes, this is copypasta. It's very misleading to label this game a 4X, though, when the 4X elements are so shallow, and that needs to be said.

i just played 7 hours today and got so bored that i quit the game and now writing reviews about how bored i was ....

The worst part of this game is the SAMENESS OF EVERYTHING.

All units and buildings are all the SAME, just given a different name and a different racial ability.

on the strategic map, all dwellings and buildings are also the SAME few kinds. on a large map....u know the whole map is so big, but everything is the same !!!

horrible blandness.

Sounds good to me, looks like I'm picking this up today after-all. Thanks for the info, Thariorn, much appreciated brother.

Well,as said undead are playable (The archon revenantswith their dwelling) and on the ageofwonders.com forums the devs already let it slip that they'll MOST LIKELY deliver a necromancer class in terms of undead as the first expansion/dlc.

Thanks Thariorn, so as long as I conquer one of those necro dwellings I can produce and use undead in battle? I just want to make sure before I buy the game. I'm a long time AoW fan but hearing you couldn't play as any undead automatically made me decide I wasn't going to buy it unless I know you can either use undead units or that they'll make them officially playable later. Not being able to play as the undead, or at least have undead units, just seems wrong to me as a AoW and fantasy fan. So, no playable undead = no buy for me.

So far you can't summon undead, but the undead archons are present as a dwelling, a sorta city-state which does not grow, but lets you produce the various undead archon units.

Is there Direct Control over any Undead Units in the game or are they all just NPC enemies? I know you can't play the Undead as a race in AoW3, but I want to know if you get to access any of their units. Can any of the hero's or leader class types use Necromany to summon skeletons or anything?
