Minor issues aside, the game has been great so far. There are some small tweaks I'm hoping for gameplay wise, but all in all this entry in the series has hooked me.

1.0 has been a little rocky with the large numbers they weren't ready for. But since early access and now after 1.0 the game has been fantastic and the devs have really listened to the players and built a great ARPG.

The amount of content in this game is staggering on it's own. But constant updates and additions over the years has made it better and better. You can play it completely free to play and still experience every bit of that content as well. The cash shop is pretty par for the course, but towards the better end rather than being toxic imo. The story has been mostly solid, and at times AAA quality, at the price of zero dollars it's absolutely worth giving a try if you like ARPG's and squad based gameplay. It can be overwhelming for new players, but the community is great and most are willing to help if you ask.

It can be a little rough around the edges and it takes time to learn the uses and specialties of each class of soldier. But it's a solid period battle sim. The other side to it is it just ends up being hilarious. Especially on sale, but either way I recommend picking this up with some friends and jumping in. My one complaint is there not being an option to 'squad' up in some way just for the purposes of seeing where your friends are. You can see steam friends with a gold arrow on your minimap though, so that is at least something.

Look, this launch has been rough. Real rough. Seems to be the norm in general for game launches these days sadly. BUT a lot of the bugs I've seen in clips and streams I've been watching, I've never had them occur in game. They are pretty rare. The primary one that happens consistently is the not being revived due to terrain geometry under/against you. And it's frustrating, but 99% of the time outside of squading with friends, I don't get revives anyways. I'm not saying the other bugs don't happen, they just aren't prevalent. The only other two pressing things that I've noticed after 40+ hrs is, AR and SMG bloom needing to be adjusted. Not universally, just particular guns. Then....the performance. That is the only thing that does irk me. How could they not see that coming? Regardless, with some adjustments that some people do for sweatlord play anyways and I'm back up around 100fps so I can manage until they get it worked out. It's by no means broken or unplayable. There are little nitpicky things like the old school scoreboard and stuff we could bring up, but at the end of the day, the game is fun. The different combinations of loadouts and specialists has been interesting for sure. PORTAL ALONE IS WORTH THE PURCHASE. I wish I could say I recommend it for everyone, but right now, I recommend it solely for long time BF players. Otherwise, give it a couple months for them to smooth stuff out and it'll be worth picking up. As for me, I'm having a blast with this iteration of BF, just wish it would have been polished before release.

The whole "spread sheet simulator" thing is the favorite buzzword of people who've never played the game. The main thing that throws people off is how you interact with the world, controlling a ship with clicks instead of direct flight controls. Which I get, it would be badass if we had the same game but with flight controls in a cockpit. However, if you can get past the control scheme feeling clunky at first, it's really not that complicated to get started in anymore with the new intro quest lines. It doesn't feel as overwhelming as it used to. With some patience and the luck to find a good group of people to fly with, the game can expand into a very complex and rewarding, hardcore sandbox that is always changing. Plus Wallpaper material. Like...everywhere.

It can be slightly rough around the edges at times, but New World has been an awesome new MMO to dive into with friends. The rough parts are limited mostly to UI bugs that pop up now and then and some QoL stuff that didn't seem to make the cut for launch. It probably could have done with another month or two before release. That said, the crafting and pvp are immensely fun. The way the map can change from day to day depending on player led companies assaulting one zone or another keeps things interesting. Always a little drama, but that's to be expected in this type of sandbox pvp game. If you are solely a pve player looking for story....I'd probably not recommend it for now. It's there, but it mostly has to be consumed by reading hundreds of in game documents you can find around the world. The dungeons and pve content there is are fun, but it is clearly a game world designed around pvp mechanics and crafting.

The story telling is decent, great visuals and landscapes. Compelling enough setting to make the loot grind a bit more bearable for those of us who care about that. I'd say it's worth playing, even if you don't spend a dime on the extra DLC's and season pass stuff. I've bought all of it and for the most part, i feel like I'm getting my money's worth.
