A decently polished Half-Life 1 mod that does almost everything right that it sets out to do.

Playing this between short breaks is probably ideal as you may grow bored of it by the end otherwise while it does try doing some new things and the level design is pretty good, there is some slight repetitiveness to it.

I do wish the voice acting was slightly better, what they have right now is serviceable but having genuine English VAs would've been more ideal, same with simply more voiced characters considering that this isn't Black Mesa and hearing the vanilla lines is a bit goofy.

The mod's take on Xen is also very good with very nice environments and level design with some neat ideas when it comes to each map, definitely better than vanilla HL1 Xen. Overall every map, be it on Earth or Xen is neatly crafted and fun to play through.
Only issues I had was the autosave placement being slightly annoying, simply because the positions for almost all of them are in incredibly bad spots as they can make you lose 5-10 minutes of progress, maybe even more depending on where you are map wise, it especially sucks for combat arenas when you have to go through them again.

Model and animation work is very good, fitting nicely into Goldsrc style wise, basically being a more polished version of the vanilla animations when it comes to it's style. Sound design on the weapons is also very good, making each gun feel impactful and satisfying to use. The fact that you can gib enemies heads makes each headshot incredibly satisfying, wish more mods tried having it aswell.

There isn't much I can say about the story as it really is just "we gotta escape the lab/facility" and the mod does end on a cliffhanger which makes me curious how it could continue if there was to be a sequel.

Overall it's an 8/10, definitely recommend it if you want a polished HL1 experience.

The pinnacle of mediocrity. Decent idea with an incredibly flawed execution.

The mod suffers from crude brushwork, inconsistent model quality, confusing level design and awful enemy placement.
While it does remind me of some retro shooters and tries to play as one, it does so very badly.

The maps are either super cramped or too open with enemies being too close or too far from you depending on the chapter you're playing through.
Certain sections go on for too long for their own good, with long cramped hallways or just going from corridor to corridor with mindless shooting.
Puzzles seem like they were thrown in as if they realized that this was still built on HL2 and needed something else other than the shooting. When it comes to puzzles the mod can't decide if it should treat you like a moron who has no idea what to do so it points the exact way to go in the most funny way possible (i.e combine panels that have wires connecting to them on the ground to a nearby forcefield you can disable with a button) or expects you find the way on your own with zero hints and easily missable pathways.

The weapons are very hit or miss, the speed the combat goes at does not compliment the reload times each weapon has. You're more than likely to be fiddling your thumb waiting on your weapon to reload while enemies are breathing down your neck (if you're unlucky enough where they decide to actually work instead of standing in one spot like idiots).
It doesn't help that certain weapons that should be accurate are the opposite while those that are supposed to be inaccurate are again the opposite. (i.e Glock in Miami is trash at long range while the MAC-10 with it's incredibly fast firerate is a no recoil, no spread monster that you can snipe with)

The models are stupidly inconsistent and look out of place with weapons and some props looking way higher quality than any of the character models, the fact that the FP arms are so low quality as if they were just ripped off of a character model from an NPC is incredibly questionable, the texture work is just abysmal especially on the gloves.
Character models also lack any deform points which leads to incredibly bad weight painting on the knees, elbows and some areas near the shoulders & clavicle.
Prop work is good looking but looks out of place when compared to everything else that was used from HL2 and CSS.

The soundtrack is just... ehhh, not much to say but it started getting really tiring and annoying hearing the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ song just going on and on in alot of the levels. The moments that it stopped working for whatever reason were incredibly peaceful until it started again.

The story is completely ignoreable as it has no pull or weight of any kind to keep you interested, the time travel idea is cool but everything around it just sucks. The dialogue in most cases don't match the actual subtitles as the audio is something else entirely. The comic style cutscenes while can look cool also suffer from inconsistencies where the models/illustrations shown look nothing like the ones actually used ingame and the dialogue that's spoken is never fully written out which begs the question as to why even have the comic stuff at all.

Overall a 3/10, I do not recommend it at all. Only play it if you have absolutely nothing to do and have incredibly low standards.

An incredible horror game with an amazing story, soundtrack, cast of characters and peak acting.

If you liked the first-person perspective of Outlast, the gore and mystery of The Thing then you should immediately get this.

Definitely my GOTY for 2024 when it comes to single-player games.

The game offers a really good story with a really good villain, the main gameplay loop is fun even if a tad bit repetitive by the end when it comes to combat itself. The puzzles will definitely have the gears in your head start turning for a few of them.

Can't wait for the DLC!

(I did the viewmodel animations for the mod)

Swelter is a more streamlined and highly polished step-up from their previous mod, Snowdrop Escape.
It's full of beautifully crafted locations and vistas, it offers something new and different from most mods as it takes place in a totally different location compared to the same-y streets and outlands of City 17.

The only somewhat negative thing I will point out is the voice-acting, due to the team not being English speakers, some lines got lost in translation, have grammar mistakes or even suffer from poor delivery in some cases but for the most part it's serviceable.

The best, most addicting CO-OP fun you'll ever have besides Left 4 Dead 2.

Contains solid gameplay, an amazing soundtrack that will get your adrenaline pumping, tons of inside jokes, a hivemind yet friendly, welcoming community and did I mention a collection of in-game brews that you can choose from?

Buy it, pick up your pickaxe, gather your fellow dwarves and get ready for the swarm.

Ever since I first got the first game for free from Humble Bundle I fell in love with it. You can imagine how I felt when I saw the very first trailer for the sequel.

I'm here to tell you that this gem right here is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AMAZING. It kept the humor from the first game and improved upon it by tackling more mature and dark stuff into it which gave me both a good chuckle, laugh or even crying laughter at times. The game takes place after the VR addition which means to understand what happened between the first game and the sequel then you might wanna watch a video about it or buy it yourself and play through it if you have VR. There are some really sad moments in the game which made me feel very bad for some of the characters and even ones that made me tear up several times.

Please, if you played the first game and enjoyed it THEN BUY THIS ONE TOO!

I am now off to collect everything else that I missed during my first playthrough and oh boy there is some stuff to collect.

Ah... Garry's Mod. This game started out as a mod for HL2 then became it's own standalone game. It has a vast amount of gamemodes, maps and addons all from the community and workshop. I mostly use it nowadays for animating, sometimes I play around with friends, doing pvp, completing a horror map/story map together or just simply jerking around. It's well worth the price, if you are lucky then you can get it for 1-4 dollars on sale.
