I just don't get it. I feel like watcher's campaign is easily the worst one. It started good but then it went downhill. Maybe it gets better later? but I've felt nothing so far. I loved all the downpour campaigns, but this just feels bad. I can't get into a lot of detail because of spoilers but I very much dislike how they handled the new regions. And somehow they invented the worst creature of all time (The stupid little guys with shells) I'll update this review if it gets better but so far it's a pretty big disappointment.

Update: I beat the campaign. It did not get much better. The ending is kind of neat but it's hard to say if that's because it's actually good or if I was just relieved it's finally over.

Overall, I don't think this DLC is very good. There's a lot of questionable design decisions. Regions range from pretty good to horrible. Creatures range from actually cool guys to the stupid whatever I mentioned earlier. Seriously, if there was an easy way to kill them I'd go out of my way to make sure every single one dies.

Hopefully the part 2 or whatever will be better... but if it's anything like this I don't have high hopes.

R.E.P.O. is a game similar to games like Lethal Company, where you and a group of friends explore a scary place with the objective of obtaining money to reach the ever increasing quota. While other similar games don't really meet the quality of Lethal Company, I believe R.E.P.O. is very close.

The Good
There's a lot of good to say about the game. The gameplay loop of collecting various items while avoiding beasties is well made. Some items have unique properties that make them harder to handle, such as the music box causing you to spin around.

All the different enemies are fun and mostly fair. The interactions such as the old man tripping over objects and stairs because he's blind are very funny. I also love grabbing the baby with a teammate and bashing him against the floor!

The shop is also well designed. You can mess around with the items before deciding to buy them and any team killing doesn't ruin the game for those affected by it as the game restores your health to whatever it was before entering the shop.

The voices. Not only does the game have a great text-to-speech system there are also some things that modify your voice, such as the acid vomit guy and the eye.

The quota. Unlike in Lethal Company, the quota in this game is always reachable, so the only limiting factor on how far you can go is your squad's skill.

The Bad
There isn't much to do while you're dead. The game is a lot slower paced than Lethal Company and levels can easily take more than 30 minutes when there are 4+ extraction points. Sure, each point can revive you at 1 hp, but at 1 hp it's very likely you'll die again if you aren't being careful or you miss a swing at an enemy (skill issue, yes, but it's still annoying). I do think they should add something to do while dead.

The singleplayer. The game is clearly intended to be playing with multiple people which is fine, but I feel the singleplayer could be better. My main issue is that massive items can still spawn which are impossible to move alone.

The stamina regen speed is probably worth mentioning, though I think its fine that stamina management is an important part of the game. Still, there could probably be a stamina upgrade in the shop.

Overall, I think R.E.P.O. is a great game, especially if you have a group of friends. Even just 1 other player is enough to make the game worth playing.

It's pretty fun but it gets kinda boring after you unlock all the upgrades and money becomes useless.

Palworld is basically a combination of Ark: Survival Evolved and Pokemon. The game currently has 111 different pals, some with variants that change their type.

Gameplay
The main gameplay loop is exploring and catching/fighting pals, which you can use to do jobs in your base like crafting or mining. Different pals can do different jobs and it's pretty fun to catch a new pal to see what abilities it has and jobs it can do. Pals also drop items when killed/caught, which are used for crafting stuff like armor or other useful items.

Combat
The combat in Palworld is fairly simple. Each pal has up to 3 different attacks which they will automatically use if they're in combat. You can also fight with melee weapons, bows or even guns. Fighting alongside your pals is quite fun. You can also find, fight and catch people. They are a lot weaker than pals and hard to catch, so don't bother unless you really want to catch one for whatever reason.

Difficulty
I've played the game on normal and hard mode. You can customize the difficulty, but I'm only going to talk about the preset difficulties.

I was pleasantly surprised by the difficulty of normal mode. It's not particularly hard but getting hit is punishing as pals can 5 shot you pretty easily. That's why dodging is very important. Most attacks are easy to dodge but some can be quite evil (like that one seed bomb attack that leaves 20 seeds on the ground that act like landmines or the purple fireball with AoE) There are also no ways to heal other than your passive regeneration or like 2 pals which have a small healing ability.

Hard mode on the other hand is pretty annoying. Pals deal 4x damage, which means they can now one shot you if you don't invest your skill points into health (and sometimes even if you do). In hard mode especially the shield item is extremely important. If you haven't taken damage in like 15 seconds or so you get shield health. The shield health isn't very much but any overkill from the damage that broke it will be negated. Damage your pals do to enemies and the damage they do to your pals hasn't changed to my knowledge, so you only need to be better at dodging to survive.

Hard mode has a few other annoying things though. You only get half the resources from mining and chopping, which really sucks when ingots are required for almost anything in the mid game. You better have atleast one base next to a lot of ore piles. Eggs also take 36x longer to hatch which is insane. A 2 hour egg turns into a 3 DAY egg. I haven't really been able to experience the breeding system because of this. Still, it's not that big of a deal as you can just customize the difficulty, but the default hard mode setting being 36x is kind of stupid. They actually reduced the default hard mode egg hatching time from by 18x (72h -> 4h). This number is a lot more reasonable.

Base Building
The base building is fine. Your pals can automate processes you would've had to do yourself. It's pretty fun to see all your pals run around your base doing different things. Their AI can be pretty stupid at times and they might get stuck which can cause them to starve if you don't save them.

Your base will sometimes get raided by people or pals, which is usually just a minor annoyance. I've heard of cases where overleveled pals that can easily destroy your whole base have appeared though. That has never happened to me but it does sound annoying.

Exploration
Exploration is probably the best part of Palworld. There are many things to find in the wild. There are lifmunk effigies which can be used to improve your catch chance, caves that have unique pals and a boss with treasure at the end, syndicate camps ran by evil people who have a captured pal which you can free and big boss pals which are basically just the cave bosses again but they always spawn in the same place.

The map has a few different biomes and they're all pretty distinct. The map is always the same though so repeat playthroughs can be pretty boring if you already know all the places.

Luckily the game has good mobility options. You can get a saddle for walking and flying pals pretty early, which greatly improve your mobility. There are also a lot of fast travel points.

Issues
The game released in early access very recently, so issues aren't very surprising.

  • The game has a memory leak. I haven't encountered it in singleplayer, but hosting multiplayer game will definitely cause it to happen. The game will crash depending on how far you're into the game, with level 30 being around the time where it crashes every 5 minutes. I hope it gets fixed soon.

  • Clipping through the world has happened on a few occasions. Usually you can get out if you have a flying mount, but sometimes it's just not possible. Once I died like that but luckily I kept all my items so it was more of an annoyance than anything else.

  • Lack of polish. The game is both polished and also not. The game runs surprisingly good but it just has a general feeling of jank. Both friendly and enemy AI will get stuck, some rocks have missing sides which lets you see inside the world, climbing is janky.

These issues will probably eventually be fixed so I'll keep updating this if something changes.

TLDR: Funny game with some issues

I'd give it like a 8/10 right now. Very fun.

I cannot recommend AK-xolotl in its current state. When you start the game, the selection of guns and items is very limited. This turns out to be a blessing in disguise, as half of the items you unlock make your run WORSE. For example, there is an item called robo hand that increases damage by 75% 30% but decreases your firerate by 50%. That's a 12.5% 35% DPS REDUCTION! In the game said item is also S tier. Many S tier items are worse than items from lower tiers. The item balance is really bad.

Edit: The QoL patch 2 buffed a few items, but the item I mentioned was unchanged and the buffs are mostly insignificant. The item balance is still really bad.

Edit 2: The QoL patch 3 buffed some items, most notably the robo hand. The item still reduces your overall DPS.

Other issues I have is the axolittle mechanic being pretty useless. Your starting axolotl has the best starting ability in the game. The recent patch made the other classes good enough to consider using, but the active abilities stay useless. There is an active ability which kills everyone INCLUDING YOU (50% of the time). It's a very funny ability but ultimately nothing else than a meme.

The gun system in this game is pretty questionable as well. The starting shotgun is easily the best starting weapon . If you're not using it some enemies and bosses are too tanky for how easy their patterns are. You can't even really make your guns better as the passive items are actively harmful so you have to slowly chip away while dodging the easiest attacks known to man. The starting shotgun is so good a lot of the secondary weapons are worse than it.

Edit 2: QoL patch 3 buffed some of the other starting guns and they may be viable now.

It's not all bad though. The art is pretty nice and the music is good.

The game has a lot of issues currently, but I do believe the game can get better. I will revisit this review after every update to see if my thoughts have changed.

8/10

Details
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (or more specifically, Repentance) is a roguelike with a lot of good and a lot of bad.

Pros
  • A lot of items with a lot of synergies, making every run different (or at least that's what you would hope...)
  • A lot of bosses for great variety
  • Plenty of different paths you can take to fight a different final boss
  • 34 characters, ranging from slight change to stats to a gimmick that defines the character
  • A lot of workshop mods to customize your experience if you wish
  • Tons of unlocks

Cons
  • Very luck based, some runs you have to fight the floor 6 boss with base stats, some runs you get a run winning item instantly
  • Some bosses are straight up unfair (Delirium...)
  • Greedier mode
  • Boss rush and hush being time-based is not good when some runs just suck, meaning no matter how good you are you won't get there in time (might not be a problem for everyone but as someone who is trying to get infinity% it's quite annoying having to miss out on stuff just to get there)
  • Sometimes visual clarity is not great and you'll get hit by bullets that were hiding under your own
  • Sometimes you cannot make it to mega satan due to devil deals spawning instead of angel deals
  • Some enemies are really annoying to deal with

Overall, The Binding of Isaac is a solid game. It has a lot of BS at times but it's still fun to play most of the time.

This seems like a great game already. It's really fun and getting new cool whips is very cool! I do have to play with the lowest settings but I don't really mind (I'm used to it lol)

EDIT 16.12.2021: Most of the performance issues have been fixed and the new leveling up system is pretty cool.
