A charming little puzzle game. It's about golf, yet you don't need to worry about getting your angle or shot power right, you move the ball 100% predictably using cards that spell out how your swing will work. Levels start out easy enough but each set introduces a new gimmick and the final levels will take a fair bit of effort to solve. Even so, the game isn't that challenging, and that's perfectly fine: not every puzzler needs to be super hard. At the end of the day, it's a neat concept executed well and that's all that matters.

A fascinating and hilarious game, Four Last Things is a quirky point-and-click adventure. It has a pretty neat concept: you're exploring a game world made entirely out of classical Renaissance-era art and music with a certain degree of self-awareness. The story is absurd yet unique. The game has a very specific kind of irreverent, Monty Python-esque humor that may not be everyone's cup of tea but I liked it a lot. As with most point-and-click games, it does have a little bit of pixel hunting and trial-and-error gameplay, but I don't think they're major issues. I enjoyed my (admittedly short) time with the game. There's also a sequel of sorts, The Procession to Calvary, that I'll be sure to check out in the future now.

Give it a try if you like short and funny adventure games.

Immortality is a game that is so intensely a personal experience that it's quite difficult to review it in broad terms. The magnum opus of Sam Barlow, this is a massive undertaking for the genre as a whole. If you played and liked Her Story, it's an easy recommendation. The artistry and ambition here more than make up for the flaws the game has.

Much like Her Story, the basic idea here is to collect clips from a trilogy of movies, from which you are supposed to make your own conclusions. The more footage you uncover, the more the game turns into a fascinating mystery. One strength of the game is how everyone will go through a different path to discover the story because of the nature of the gameplay. The central gameplay mechanic of how you discover new footage is fascinating. The game is in love with the process of filmmaking; playing through it made me gain a new level of appreciation for films and the work that goes behind the scenes. I will not mention any details about the story as it is worth experiencing yourself without getting spoiled. I found the story entertaining and thought-provoking and the themes explored were deeply intriguing. All that is topped off by one of the best endings I've seen in a game in quite a while.

Sam Barlow and the team at Half Mermaid deserve praise for the sheer effort that went into creating Immortality. The 'fake' films feel like real ones, and I wouldn't hesitate to watch them in a theater. The actors all give fantastic, believable performances in the myriad of roles they play. All the footage is fantastically directed with great cinematography, and the writing is leagues above your average game. The game also has a lot to offer in terms of content: I kept playing long after the credits rolled as there was so much left to discover.

Now, let's talk about the flaws. The video player interface takes some time to get used to and has a lot of quirks. Clearly the game wanted to emulate the experience of using VHS tapes which, if you are old enough to remember, weren't as intuitive as the video players of today. If you liked how 'gamified' the process of discovering new information was in Her Story, too bad, that has been replaced in favor of a simplistic system that takes away a lot of player agency. The biggest issue with the game is that you will eventually struggle finding new clips as you start to exhaust most of the content. Despite the game seemingly favoring to show new clips more over already-seen ones, it still remains a problem if you want to see every single piece of footage. Fully completing the game requires far more patience than you would expect.

If you love great narratives in video games and the medium of film, Immortality is a must-play.

Tinykin is a rather incredible 3D platformer. I knew it was something special ever since I played the demo... the full game manages to exceed my expectations. It's a fun, relaxing, wholesome, and extremely polished experience.

At first glance you may think the game is inspired by Pikmin, but in reality it's more like a mix of Overlord and Super Mario Odyssey gameplay-wise. Sure, you do collect Tinykins that have special abilities, but those only serve the platforming aspect. You don't need to manage your tiny companions or use them in combat like Pikmin. As a 3D platformer Tinykin gets the basics right: your movement throughout the levels is smooth and effortless and the actual platforming is top-notch. The game smartly gives you the majority of the platforming options as early as possible, making it quite enjoyable to explore each level. And the levels themselves are great: you really will feel like a tiny person inside a huge house. Something about that early 90s (specifically, 1991) setting is just so fascinating to me as it also reflects my childhood. You may feel overwhelmed when you're dropped inside such massive levels, but the game quickly allows you to overcome that feeling thanks to the memorable layouts and paths you can take through them. I cannot praise the level design enough, it's downright brilliant how you discover secrets and shortcuts. The way you are guided subtly towards your objectives without any obvious handholding is another nice touch. Collectibles add enough replay value to the levels as it's unlikely you'll get every single one the first time. Some collectibles like the bubble upgrades also enhance the actual gameplay potential as you can practically fly forever once you've fully collected them.

Performance is another area where the game impresses. I did not notice any framedrops or stutters. No noticeable bugs either during my playthrough and zero crashes. Loading times are fast enough, it's easy to start the game and immediately jump into a level.

I can't find much to criticize here, aside from the fact that the game is a bit on the shorter side (6-8 hours to complete the main story, around 10-12 hours if you want to do everything). But I feel like it's the perfect length for the game as it emphasizes quality over quantity. The last two Tinykin types feel a bit underutilized and underwhelming compared to the first four which you'll use a lot. The lack of a dedicated photo mode is a bit of a downside to me as I love taking screenshots while playing. Still, all of these are minor complaints.

If you love 3D platformers, you'll enjoy Tinykin.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is a fantastically fun game. For many people, Spider-Man used to be the one game you bought a PS4 to play, a system seller. Just the fact that this is now on PC is kind of a miracle. That the game also happens to be a stellar PC port is just the cherry on top.

First, let's talk about how great the PC port is. Sony made the right decision to acquire Nixxes to help with their PC ports; this is probably the best PC version of any AAA game I played in 2022. Much like other past Playstation exclusive titles, Spider-Man has PC-exclusive features like ultrawide support and upscaling tech like DLSS and FSR 2.0. Alongside that, the keyboard and mouse controls are well-thought-out. I played the game 50/50 on my PC monitor with KB+M and on my TV a PS4 controller, both control schemes felt equally good. I'd even argue this is a better port than God of War because you can actually adjust the FOV and turn off every post-processing effect like chromatic aberration and motion blur. And it runs smooth as butter too! On my hardware (i9 10850K, RTX 3080 10GB, 32GB RAM) I get 70-100 FPS at 4K with raytracing and DLSS, which is way better than 'just' 4K @ 60FPS I was expecting before release. And the game isn't plagued with random stutters/frametime spikes (looking at you, Elden Ring and FF7 Remake). Despite the framerate fluctuating depending on how much is on your screen, the game remains smooth 100% of the time. Load times while installed on an NVMe SSD were fast too, around 3 seconds to load a save or fast travel. About the only issue I had with the port was the HBAO+ setting not working properly with the day 1 version, which a patch seems to have fixed now. I am living in a bizarre reality where Sony keeps releasing fantastic PC ports with great post-release support. I can't complain about that, can I?

What makes Spider-Man stand out from other open world ones is the traversal. Insomniac absolutely nails the movement of Spider-Man. You could see shades of this system in their old game, Sunset Overdrive. Here, it's so fun just swinging and web-slinging from building to building that I didn't even bother with fast-travel for 99% of my playtime. I really don't want to say the meme phrase 'this game really makes you FEEL like Spider-Man'... but it's true. The combat is pretty fun too, especially mid to late-game where you'll have unlocked many moves and gadgets to spice it up. The map of NYC is filled with collectibles, some of them fantastically well-designed, some not so much. I really loved collecting all the unique backpacks and suits (so many suits! From MCU and other Spider-Man movies to comic book ones to joke suits). As a whole, the traversal mechanics carry the game. It's almost zen-like to go from point A to point B in this game and I found myself missing Spider-Man's movement when I moved on to playing other games. It's not all perfect gameplay-wise though. Some forced stealth sections you go through kind of break the flow of the normal gameplay a bit too much (who thought making you NOT be Spider-Man and NOT do Spider-Man stuff in a Spider-Man game was a good idea?). If you want to 100% the game, some crimes you have to clean up will eventually become repetitive towards the end. Despite that, those sections are just a minor part of an experience that is generally as good as you'll get when you imagine a Spider-Man game.

Insomniac went the bold route of making an entirely original story with the characters and setting of Spider-Man. Just following the story of the movies and comic would've made the game less special and more predictable. I was pleasantly surprised by the cast of characters and villains. The story starts strong, has some pretty interesting twists and turns, and ends nicely, which is more than I could ever ask from a game like this. Granted, I didn't like the side missions and DLC content as much compared to the main story, but they're still fun enough to go through at least once. I'd say this ranks among the better Spider-Man stories I've experienced.

So, there you have it. One of the best PS4 games now on PC, arguably running and looking even better than the PS5 version. If you haven't played it before, Spider-Man is absolutely worth it.

The Dew is a short puzzle game based on a simple premise. It seems easy enough at first but as you progress more and more through the levels it can get fairly challenging. Just some solid puzzle gameplay which I enjoyed quite a lot.

Unfortunately the associated story isn't delivered fantastically as the English translation is quite rough. I still liked it despite that (admittedly major) shortcoming, but your mileage may vary.

I find it a bit sad that it has so few steam reviews... if you are a fan of minimalist puzzles, give it a try. I think you won't be disappointed.

A relaxing 'game' that surprisingly is very well-made despite being so meme-y (is that even a word?)

All you have to do is to start it and watch the ducks spawn and float. You can let it run like a screensaver, check back in a while and be pleasantly surprised to discover other new things happening.

Who knows, maybe watching a plastic duck float around in a pool is exactly what you need in your life right now.

This is a neat little puzzle game that manages to be simultaneously relaxing and addicting. There are plenty of well-designed levels, Steam Workshop support and a level editor, so you get a lot for the asking price. While some puzzles are a bit on the easier side, there still are challenges like getting all 3 crowns on every level that encourage you to play better. I also like the colors and overall aesthetic; it looks very clean visually.

Give it a try if you like chill games. I think you'll find it surprisingly fun just like I did.
