I just simply can't express how much I really love this game, Thumper is just what my steam library was missing.
While this game is not for everyone, I can honestly consider it as one of my all time favourites.
Try to get some good headphones and try to play it during moments when you are alone and you have nothing to do, the game will suck you in like a hallucination and by the time you're done with it you will realize at least 1 hour has passed.
At the moment of writing this, I have finally completed all the levels with an S rank in about 23 hours of gameplay and I still want to play more.

Even though I dont have as many hours in this game like others, I could still write a lot words about it...

I love this game so much, yet I hate it in so many ways. I've played this game since the time I created my Steam account and sometimes I come back to it. The game has changed a lot both for good and bad, and even when there is a really bad update I don't know why but I return one more time.

When I come back to it I stop playing not because I don't like it, but because the game has been dying for a long time. It's kind of sad to enter a game that used to be full of people years ago and find that there's not much people left in it. We all saw this coming though, as the game stopped having any real updates a while ago... but that doesn't mean the game is bad! In fact I think there hasn't been a lot of content updates because the game has a lot of stuff in it already. You have a crafting system, a pet system, a progression system, a nice story... it's kind of hard to think what else to add. The game could have more bosses and enemy variety, but tying them together with everything else (especially the story and levels) would be kind of hard, more so with the small team Grey Havens has.

The game isn't perfect as you need to grind a lot to get somewhere (like most F2P games), but at least for me this grind isn't painful like in a lot of other F2P games, because you get to meet really nice people along the way and also because the maps are "random" each time you go down into the depths. After some hours you will start seeing pieces that you already know, but by then you should already have made some friends or met someone to talk with to ease the grind. I also love the soundtrack in this game and I always feel kind of nostalgic when I hear it, specially the theme of Haven in any of its versions.

And the art is great for the kind of adventure this game presents!

I would say the only problem I've had with this game across the years is the monetization system, this game has always suffered from the in-game currency that you can buy with real money or exchange for a lot of farmable money: energy. I understand the developers of a F2P game have to sell something so they don't starve to death, but even then I feel like the energy prices for some things have always been kind of high. I wouldn't really mind paying money for the game, especially taking into account the hours of fun I've had with it, but I'm always short on cash anyways so I've grinded my way up the Tiers and well, it can get kind of painful.

After this wall of text all I can say is that a lot of people will come here only for the TF2 hat, a lot of people wont like the game at all and a lot of people will hate it even though they've played more than 1k hours of it. Some will keep complaining when a new lootbox comes out with the same outfits as the last one but with another color, and some will just leave the game because they found something more interesting for them.

But for me... I just want to remember the good memories I've had of this game and how during its peak this was probably one of the best games I experienced.

I fully recommend this game as you don't even need to buy it, just download it and see if you can get some enjoyment out of it! It's pretty light-weight for today's standards so you won't lose anything for giving it a try anyways.

And if you don't like it anyways... well, I tried my best. I hope you can have fun with this game as I did many years ago!

If you like the artstyle I highly recommend looking at Slime Rancher, as PolygonCherub did the amazing style for both of them.

Nominated this game for the "No Apologies" award of the Steam Awards 2017.

Nominated for "The Most Fun With A Machine" award of the Steam Awards 2018.

Edit (14/03/2021): Added some lines, fixed some other ones. I no longer return to this game periodically but I can assure you everything I've written in this review still stands as my opinion of this game. Good times... I miss them...
