I hate to have to do this but the game isn't fun anymore solely because of matchmaking. 90% of the time I get paired with people that have never touched a computer game before and the other 10% of the time I get paired with salty players that are looking to pick a fight with you. Almost every other game I play, I get reported for intentionally feeding, even when I go positive. I get reported for harassment even when I never say a single thing in chat. Even when I give teammates commendations they still feel salty enough to report the entire team. This happens almost every single game.
Along with that, there's always one or two salty players that aren't looking to have a good time. The player base is so unbelievably toxic that the game is no longer fun. Every match, I get a teammate that harasses everyone or decides they want to intentionally feed because they don't care.
It says on steam I've played over 350 hours, but I've been playing since the beta back in 2012. I should not be getting paired with players like this with how much playtime I have, which tells me that the overall matchmaking experience is probably like this across the board. In order to have fun in this game now, you must play with friends. Period. I can almost guarantee you that you will not have a fun time playing by yourself because the matchmaking is so unbelievably terrible that I no longer find this game fun, and I've been playing for 9 years.

Edit: Every single Persephone player is toxic and looking to pick a fight with you. Literally every single one. If you get paired with a Persephone, do yourself a favor and just mute them.

Hard agree, especially when i get people who are level 30 playing with their feet in ranked. pretty poggers that i have to lose +30 minutes just because my anubis mid is a paraplegic

this is way too true.... get a mid that feeds the enemy and then says "sorry guys this my first game of smite" meanwhile the enemy team has 4/5 mastery 10 gods, idk why this happens and its infuriating

Lately, even with friends, the games tend to be shit - when you queue as a premade, the system is going to queue you against premades, and more often than not it's the most tryhard comps with constant laugh/taunt spam and BM end lobbies being the rule rather than the exception. It doesn't help that every build now seems to be viable, even if it's technically a meme - items have such bloated stats, and gods have such bloated kits. The worst part is, give it long enough and the toxicity may eventually rub off on you (which is why I'm giving this game a break until next season to see if TitanForge can maybe do something about the playerbase and the power creep). It pains me too, as yet another player who has been playing off and on since the beta. I have so many memories with this game, and I don't want to end it off on a sour note... but I may have to.

I can back this up. I played in beta as well, though I didn't make it to 30 in the beta at the time. I get matched with the SAME kind of people all the time. Salty kids or super new player skill levels. There seems to be no in-between!

At it's core SMITE is a competitive game, hence why it is so toxic and hence why people take it seriously. But I agree the game is very toxic, but I feel that goes for all MOBAs and competitive games in general. As for the matchmaking, I fully agree it is dog shit, I have 800 hours on PS4 and the matchmaking was awful up there too. Friends does make it better though, but when your friends are done with the game too, then I guess you're shit out of luck lol

yeah this game pretty much died the moment drybear, kelly, and a few other devs left, and the days of the pewdiepie promos. RIP smite you were loved and were remembered fondly. Now you are replaced with just utter garbage
