This game was very educational for me. I used to think being Yakuza was mostly about the criminal underworld, illegal business activity, and a life of honor. Thanks to Ichiban, I now know that it mostly consists of assaulting random homeless people, working for prostitution rings, and playing mahjong in your spare time.

I raised a follower from an egg, made her a disciple, then married her.

Then she robbed me, so I served her a bowl of poop and sacrificed her.

A unique speed running FPS platformer that wouldn't take that long to beat, except for the fact that it constantly challenges you to improve your times on each level. Most levels take less than a minute to complete, but the game provides hints, tracks your best run, and compiles leaderboards to encourage you to do just a bit better than last time. All this means you can play each level dozens of times and still not feel satisfied.

This game is Capcom's magnum opus as far as I'm concerned. They have taken the foundations of everything that made the original game revolutionary and improved on them in every way you would expect from a modern release. All of the core mechanics of the original are here with some new ones thrown in for good measure, like parrying and gem inlaying. The RE engine still does not disappoint with amazing looking environments, characters, and weapons. Nearly every character has been improved and fleshed out from the original, with the best improvements arguably being Luis and Ashley. Unfortunately, Ada's voice actor was miscast in my opinion. The camp has been toned down and the horror turned up, which I am honestly fine with and it tracks with the direction of the REmake series to this point. With the addition of Separate Ways DLC recently, you can expect to get the full package of a modernized iconic classic which, in my opinion, is the quintessential survival horror game released to date.

Wow, this game kind of came out of nowhere to end up as one of my favorites of 2023. It instantly hooked me in the same way as games like Stardew Valley and Terraria, although admittedly it doesn't have the same infinite re-playability of those. The gameplay loop alternates between the diving and restaurant portions, with story, events, and mini games sprinkled all over, making it feel extremely varied and giving you plenty of things to get lost in. The pixel cut-scenes aren't like anything I've seen before and are easily one of the most charming aspects of the game. I really hope the developers go for a sequel with more potential in the endgame; that was honestly the only thing I found lacking in this one.

Strong recommend for anyone who enjoys Resident Evil and other adjacent games. Resource management feels like a different take on Resident Evil 4's system, and was very satisfying on the higher difficulties. The creepy and tense environments are done extremely well and I only have minor complaints about the game overall. It has definitely earned its place among the greats of the survival horror genre.
