Homeworld 3, when compared to it's predecessors, is an amalgam of gorgeous graphics, mediocre mechanics and stale storytelling.
That being said, this is in comparison to it's predecessors. The game is far from perfect, but it IS fun. as far as games go, it is not bad, just not as good as it should be. it IS beautiful. and if you ignore the story, and let's be honest, most of the fun comes from wargames - it just leaves you wanting more. more relics, more wargame maps, more consecutive missions before completing it. I would wholeheartedly reccommend you buy homeworld remastered over this game, but i have managed to get 34 hours in the game - something i definitely would not have done were the game bad.

This game is great. Brilliant little design, simple with a decent amount of things to do despite only using three buttons, and highly cathartic.
That said, it is not without its issues.
Now some might call this nitpicking, but there are a lot of small "What ifs" and "Whens" that drag on this game.
Namely; there is definitely a need for war to be reworked; as once you are at war with someone you lose all hopes of making use of any of their captains and such. This makes sense; who would work for someone who's at war with you? But then, what if you win? you've gone around the map and taken out each and every one of their bases. there's nothing left. Well... now you can't make peace because there's no-one to make peace with, you have a large amount of population from all the bases you captured, but nothing to show for it. That makes... war entirely un-fulfilling and straight up harms your gameplay. there's just no reason to do it.
Further to that; if you enjoy making sprawling cities - or cities of any kind - losing captains because you're aligned with one faction severely harms you as well, because it makes it impossible to keep up your trade routes.
What is really needed is for there to be make-up captains, where if some captains refuse to work for you, say because you wiped out a faction, you gain either more resources for each of your existing captains to make them more versatile or alternatives that are aligned towards you.

It's a matter of content, primarily; because this is an absolutely lovely little game but as i've found out quickly after about three hours of gameplay, i'm pretty much soft-locked to the point I can't really do anything else because there aren't enough captains, because trading requires captains and getting those resouces to and from an area requires more captains.

There is another potential way to solve this issue: Allowing captains to have their own routes rather than a single point A to point B. if you can assigne three or four harbours to a single captain, rather than assigning a captain to a single port, you would find that a lot of the issues caused by this are reduced. But unfortunately, that isn't how it works at the moment.

Overall, right now, I'd call this a 7/10. There's room for improvement, but what we have right now is lovely - but because of the flaws, you end up with only 3-4 hours in any one save before running out of things to do.

What is there to say about this game other than it's incredible?
It's a game. There are monsters. You hunt them.
You can choose 14 different weapon types, all of which with unique playstyles. Some fast pace, some slow pace, some ranged, some melee. some tank, some dps. some support.
Graphics are great, atmosphere is beautiful, gameplay is smooth, but the multyiplayer is annoying because you need all players to have watched cutscenes before you can join them.

Words cannot describe just how amazing this game is... Now, hear me out.
Let me preface this by saying before I played this last year, I refused to go near it because I thought it was overhyped, overrated and had a stupid fanbase (Which is ironic coming from a touhou fan)
Then someone close to me told me they wanted me to play it because they knew i would like it if I actually gave it a go.

I did. I tried it. At first, I thought "Hey, this isn't bad. I can see myself playing more of this."
So I did. There were rough patches, because some of the fights are seriously bloody hard, but I kept playing, kept trying, and kept paying attention to the story.

Every monster you come across is distinct and personal, all with their own hopes and dreams, you don't go into a fight thinking "Imma kill this mob to get experience" as you realise quickly that... these aren't just monsters, they are people. But you can still kill them anyway, or... not. You'll understand when you play. But there are multiple distinct endings that are obtainable through playing in different ways. And many, many secrets that I dare not spoil because holy cow they are hard hitting.

Let's talk about something other than the story though, because although the story was stunning, enough to bring me to tears and I mean that quite literally, I want you to experience it for yourself.
The music matches perfectly, it always seems to make each scene hit harder, to the point that later on after playing, certain pieces of music will bring specific emotions to me based on my playthrough of the game, and i'll be brought to tears again. And, the soundtrack is so good that you will find yourself humming tracks long after you've finished playing because they are just so damn catchy.

So... while the artsyle is arguably basic, it's also charming. Monsters have amazing designs, although I do have to wonder why one of the main character's legs is wider than the other, that's... pretty much the worst thing about the art. Everything else is amazingly done.

Before I played this I didn't understand the hype about this game, a game which i found out later was inspired somewhat by Touhou (Which i have played and do understand) - But now i've played this I've seen exactly what makes it so special, and I can confirm that if you haven't given it a damn good go, then... you cannot judge this game like I did. Because it deserves so much more respect than I gave it before playing it. I understand now why the fanbase is so devoted.

It's because, out of nowhere, this small indie game was so well made, with such great care and attention and love that it moved everyone who played it.

Just trust me, even if the battles sometimes feel overwhelmingly hard, just... keep going. It's worth every second.

Thank you.

How could I not reccomend such an amazing game?
Gearbox completely outdid themselves here, it's such a loving recreation. It's so obvious they love homeworld, and I couldn't be grateful enough for this amazing remaster of an amazing game.
The story is amazing, especially the first game. This much is to be expected. The second game is overall not considered as good as the first but it did have the better engine, and considering the mod support that was added, this is a clear winner of a remaster. Thank you, gearbox. If you like strategy games then this one is a must get.

Damn. This game just... it's amazing.
BSG:Deadlock is an unusual title, a turn based control strategy that executes real time combat through orders every ten seconds. It's a really unique experience that i have loved from day one. The developers are continuing to add features and QoL improvements even today and as a result this game has become so much better than it was when it launched, and i was not disappointed when i first got it. There are many who would wonder what to expect - and honestly, there's so much that it's quite hard to fully explain what you will find here - research, commander management, fleet management, engaging combat, and political map control. The early game can be quite challenging, especially since you only have a very small number of ships to start with, but as the game progresses, you can find yourself in almost complete control at any point - to the point that losing a ship that you've built up over the turns can be devastating - and the added option to keep damage to ships between battles not only adds challenge, but also personality - having to repair the ships makes them feel much more real, much more alive, and losing them becomes even more devastating. Honestly, even if you're not interested in BSG this is a game that's worth picking up. Good hunting, commanders.

Would I reccommend this game to people? Yes. It's an amazing game.
Would I reccommend you BUY this game? No, it's also an almost completely dead game.
Would I reccommend people try to get the ball rolling to revive it, start a whole new community and so on? Yes.

What is this game? Well, essentially, you build warships that fly in the upper atmosphere. Jets, spaceships, entire freaking battleships. You imagine it? In one way or another, you can build it. That's the sort of game this is.
Unfortunately it is technically also abandonware. The servers are gone. The dev has vanished from the face of the earth, likely to work at his full-time job (This was his side project, after all).

If you do pick up this game, do so on sale, If possible. You may not be able to get much true gameplay out of it unless you join the discord server and take part in their occasional tournaments - but you WILL get a nice little ship designer that you can also test out your designs with. Unfortunately, you will be constrained by your budget - and without a big playerbase or even servers, getting that to increase is very very hard.
So would I reccomend this game? Yes. But I can't say it's worth spending this much money on as it is now. Let's hope one day the almighty god of this realm returns and brings the game back. We miss him. Oh also, there are mods!

Well well well... the game has been released fully, so I gave it another go. My previous review, where I said that while the gameplay was amazing I couldn't give it a good review due to a bug so gamebreaking that i had to just close it since it was impossible to progress, has been fixed, Since then, a story has been added with characters that feel... like people. it's rare for a game that comes out of nowhere to end up feeling more real than some real people... and as per my previous review, the game's visual design, sound design and gameplay are fantastic. Thank you, developers, for fixing it. And Tina, thank you for responding so well to my review and I apologize for never getting back to you.
