Fun, best with mods or DLC.

online gets boring quick but still is fun while it lasts.

Single player is good too i recomend you use some form of DLC or mod.
Florris mod is good if you only have vanilla, it adds awesom features but doesnt add a story.
Viking Conquest DLC is EPIC, it adds a story that and fetures that improves the game.
