Macca's does have better decor but that's about it. HJ's looks like a refugee from the 80s and so do most of their customer base.

These days if I'm having a burger, I'm finding the local shop that still does real ones and am happy to pay $10 for that, knowing that by the time I've finished I'll have a food baby and need to sleep it off. Last one of these I got from a local shop in the back of beyond the bun was easily twice the size of a standard tiptop special that the franchises use. It also contained perhaps a forequarter of pig in terms of bacon, more than 1 slice of beet, a big juicy ring of pineapple, a proper fried egg with runny yolk and real cheddar. Plenty of pickles and my choice of sauce. The patty was almost an inch thick and had salt, pepper and rosemary in it, and was cooked medium rare, just the way I like it.

I agree with the comment that Macca's is way overpriced, so is HJ's too if I'm being honest. When sloppy microwaved patties crammed into a cheap tiptop bun with a sprinkling of wilted lettuce, start costing over $10 in a 'meal' (use that term loosely) or $5 for just the burger by itself you know it's time to move on.

I used to enjoy Macca's hot apple pies, when they were $1.50 a piece. At almost $3 I can go to a bakery and have a real apple turnover for that. I'm not eating a deep fried bit of pastry with a tonne of gluggy sauce in it and three bits of apple for $3. Likewise with the burgers. When you could front up and get even one of their main burgers for less than $5 without the meal option it was okay. If I'm spending $10....no. I'll get something better thanks. A handful of fries and 3 cents worth of post mix are not worth the cost.

I really dont understand maccas pricing. From the perspective of the employees and managers they are too low, their salaries certainly are not great. But from our perspective the prices are way too high. Does all that money go to head office?

Furthermore I really don't see the appeal of maccas other than the fact that it is the only thing open late at night. The past few times I've ordered the burgers have been sloppy or cold, and the fries are never right. There are those rare moments when you get a maccss craving and it is made well, but it happens too far between and few for me to go there.

I had hungry jacks tonight and it was excellent reasonable price, the cheeseburger was not a sorry little thing and the chips had that nice flavored salt.

I prefer to eat salads myself. muchh healthier and the diarrheas come out much nicer.
