(VERY EARLY ACCESS REVIEW AND THOUGHTS)

Had a lot of fun with this. I've not been an avid Runescape player in many years now but I still go back every so often and have fond memories of it. They have clearly taken inspiration from some other survival games that work and put Runescape's own spin on it. That said, here are some thoughts on it.

Gaining new utility spells and stuff as you level up your stats is a really neat way to encourage you to go out of your way to "grind" a bit on specific things to make it better for you later. An example of this is having the ability to cast "Splinter" on a downed tree and have it instantly split into logs without needing to manually chop and split them if you are in a hurry.

Combat so far feels fairly good, dodge rolls to avoid damage, combo attacks with melee, magic*, and ranged* weapons.
*Magic and *Ranged stats have not been fully implemented yet, and cannot gain any levels or perks through combat as of writing this out, but they can be used and do function regardless. Staves let you use fire and air attacks so far both having their own unique use. Shortbows can be quick fired in a combo while longbows deal more damage but need to be aimed and fired with no combos available, if you try to fire it without aiming you'll kick.

Beyond all this, my gripes about the game so far is the insane levels of bloom and other lighting or visuals that can be a bit much. Gathering copper and tin can be a pain in the butt, the food and hunger seems to drain a little faster than I'd like. Also armor/weapon progression seems so out of whack right now, like I have an abyssal whip and I'm wearing bronze armor. That is wild to me. Just personal nitpicks though.

Oh and when I was playing with some friends, one of them managed to find himself outside of the map. So that was a funny bug for about 5 minutes.

TLDR: Fun game, I like the runescape spins they are putting on familiar concepts of survival games. They have a wonderful foundation of a game so far with amazing potential, I hope they seize it and really take and run with it with the help and input of the community.

Probably the hardest I've ever been smacked around in a Fromsoft game to be completely honest.

The new weapons (and types) introduced are a breath of fresh air for the game for both PvP and PvE, the only thing I feel that needs addressed aside from the performance issues*, is some of the bosses rushing you the millisecond you walk through the fogwall. Frankly the first few times it happened was pretty damn funny in my opinion. Here's hoping they patch out the performance problems people are having, some worse than others.

*The worst performance issues I've had were some cases of the game freezing up for about a second or so, but its been so infrequent that it hasn't really hindered my gameplay besides being annoying. (RTX 3060 and Ryzen 9 5900X with the game on an SSD)

Valve you need to do something, the bots and cheats are so out of hand and you're just letting the game fester and wither away while your player base is dwindling and BEGGING for you to not let this game die. The amount of game developers that would kill to have this much love and support for a game from their community is astronomical and you're just letting them rot and watch something they love be tarnished.

This game has went from a daily must play to "man, remember when this game was enjoyable to play? I miss those days."

Echoes update is the best state this game has been in period.

This game is no longer following some pseudo MMO online mission game akin to warframe and it's monetization (since DE dipped and left the game in purgatory for the devs to figure out)

There are some odd instances of bugs rn such as getting stuck and unable to move or fast travel after viewing a memory node with a character, and a few minor visual glitches and/or persistent effects from abilities that happen occasionally. If it does happen just exit back to main menu and back in to fix for now until its patched offically. Art style is great, gameplay is fun, and now that it is a singleplayer/co-op game not tied to a shoddy server, its thoroughly enjoyable.

Also, anything that was in the cash shop or otherwise (minus original founders items when it was going to be a f2p mmo styled game) are all found in game through looting and quests, even unlocking the rest of the characters.

While this isn't what was originally envisioned by the devs, converting the game into an offline game to still be enjoyed instead of shutting the doors forever and not being able to play is something I wish more developers would do, or consider at the very least.
I'll give this game a 7/10 at it's current state. I hope to see it be improved further as time goes for a foreseeable future.

Improves upon just about everything Remnant: From the ashes did, and even that game was a great time. Can easily be played solo but is a blast of a time co-oping with some friends. Devs constantly fix things that are broken when it is brought to their attention, and the game itself off rip is cheaper than standard new game pricing these days.

If I had to put it to a score scale of 1-10, I'd give it a solid 9.5/10. There is still things they need to iron out, and theres always room for improvements. Even being pit against massive juggernauts of games that have released this year, Remnant 2 can easily stand tall and hold it's own among them.

The only game I've played outside of FF14 that the community seems to have an equally insanely huge thirst for playable characters.

Oh and the gameplay itself is pretty fun too.

Between some really bad cash grab practices, vaulting (removing basically) past content, and glaringly bad issues that are plaguing some people, myself included, such as quests missing to unlock fragments for the new rework of solar and void subclasses, and Hunter completely missing its void subclass for literally no reason for months on end...

I hate to give this game a negative review but the current state of things I just genuinely cannot tell people to play when they might get some of these game breaking issues as well.

After nearly 54 hours of game time, I know I still am not even remotely close to finished with the game in any aspect. Exploration? Story? Bosses? I'm still finding things new in the first zone you start off in let alone the rest and I've got (guesstimate here) somewhere between 60-75% of the map "uncovered" in the map fragment system. Literally every time I go back to somewhere I'm finding something new, if not fighting a boss I didn't find before.

The game by itself gently guides you towards the direction you're suppose to go with the grace markers shooting out a golden trail in the direction to progress but you can ignore it entirely and just do whatever your heart tells you to. The genuine open freedom, in the same package of the soulsborne series the veteran players love, I can only call it FromSoft's Magnum Opus. I am 100% blown away by this game, it has exceeded my hopes, expectations, and even my own hype as the game came closer and closer to release.

TL;DR is, this is the greatest game From Software has released bar none. I'll see you all in the Lands Between, Tarnished.
