I've been playing games since I was 7 years old, I used to wait for my grandpa to get back from work so I could see him play the original Resident Evil 4 on the Playstation 2, which was the first game I ever played alongside him, those moments have lasted my whole life as a memory of what made me start loving playing videogames. I love the original game, but does the remake hold up to such a high standard? Short answer, yes.

Resident Evil 4 is a reminder of what a remake should be, a game that is faithful to the original premise, while also implementing new mechanics and visual effects that create a new experience for those who played the original, but at the same time trying to interest people who haven't played the original. If you've already played the original game you'll notice a big difference in the map design, the remake may have similar events that happen throughout compared to the original, but the remake turns those events into a whole different experience, expanding the opportunities you have to explore the map and find secrets. For example (spoilers for one of the bossfights on the village) After the "Del Lago" fight you have to look for places around the lake that help you find 2 puzzle keys that ultimately lead you to the church's key, you spend around 30-90 minutes exploring around the lake, compare that to the amount of time you explored the lake in the original

The best thing of the remake compared to the original is the gunplay, in the original you had a more linear approach to combat, usually revolving around the idea of shooting someone in the head, getting a guaranteed stun, kicking them and then finishing them off on the ground, whereas on the remake you won't have a guaranteed stun with a single shot to the head, making you a lot more vulnerable to crowds, in order to balance this out you have the parry mechanic, this mechanic lets you play around the idea of defending yourself while attacking by using your knife, the game will demand you to master this in order to defend yourself successfully because the remake turns the amount of enemies up to 11, you'll have a lot of instances where you'll be surrounded and the only thing that'll get you out of this situation is the parry.

The remake doesn't cut any content from the original game, the speed challenge describes that you need to beat the game in less than 8 hours , with that being said the game will take around 15-30 hours on average if you take your time and also depending on which difficulty you're playing on. If you played the original before I would recommend that for your first time you should play on standard difficulty, it may sound weird considering that the game suggests you to play on hardcore if you've already played the original, but hardcore, to be brief, is brutal, so if you want to play for the first time in hardcore have in mind that the game won't hold back.

Regarding performance have in mind that RE4 remake uses the same engine as RE2 remake, so if you have RE2 remake and it runs smoothly then you will run RE4 remake just as well if not better. I have a geforce 1660, an i7-7700 3.6ghz and 16gbs of ram, the game runs on medium/high at an average of 80 fps.In conclusion RE4 remake is a very good remake that lives up to the name of the original release. If you haven't played the original and you're not sure if you want to buy it then check youtube for reviews on the game, if you already played the original then this is a MUST BUY , you will feel right at home with this marvelous game created by Capcom.
