Balance is a bit of a pendulum

Game is not pay2win, nor is it pay2play. You get 95% of the content and experience and the full gameplay loop without paying a dime. The 1 character slot limit on free accounts can be a bit frustrating, but gear and loot is temporary anyways, and a character can be leveled up to 15 (all perk slots unlocked) within a few hours or so. But Iron Mace has plans for unlockable character slots. As of my current playtime (45 hours) I have leveled and deleted 6/9 classes up to full perk unlocks.

Paying gets you access to a trading post, and high roller mode. If you are staying in the queue with a gearscore under 25, these do not matter at all, and above a gearscore of 25 you will find a fair mix of killers and fresh players alike, but it certainly is more dangerous.

I've had a lot of fun for free, and would recommend this experience in the paid or purchased category.

Development has been very tumultuous because of a tsunami, and COVID. Yet they are still making updates and finishing up season 2 from home.
As a long time fan of the series, this is very worth picking up compared to earlier entries, despite all its hardships. Infact, that just makes it all the more remarkable.

Just don't let them get you with a grenade in the elevator on the friendly fire servers.

*(Seriously my only major complaint is the respawning mechanics can make rounds last far longer then they have business lasting, and effectively remove all tension present entirely)

You should probably buy this game. Its easy to learn but hard to master, and beyond that, a simple tale of physics, a ball, and rocket powered battle sports cars. A tale as old as time itself.
