Very well made when it comes to searchable cat games. I really like the sections being colored in when completed.

I'm pretty sure i've had this game since 2017, and I finally got all the achievements today. Shut your brain off and let it enter a flow state, and you'll clear it much sooner than I did.

This is not of the same quality as the rest of the series.

Where the other games are cats hidden into the designs, this game is more of just cats sitting in plain site. I only struggled with two of them, and thats because 1 was hidden behind the home ui and you can't see it unless you zoom in, and the other one was hidden under 99 steam achievement popups.

I love this series of games, and I understand they are free, but if they are entry to sell the dlc's tied to them, id hope that new games in the series maintain the level of quality the past entries have.

(edit at the bottom)

I feel trapped.

I really like this game, or I should say, I really liked what this game was. It was, and still is, a fast pace card battler that is more or less not p2w. However the big appeal is the cool card variants and upgrading them to look pretty. Second Dinner has made obtaining new variants without spending money very scarce in the past few updates. They justified removing one of the main sources of obtaining gold, for their new Spotlight Cache system, which has no duplicate protection in place and is hard to obtain enough caches weekly to guarantee the card you want, so if you want to advance your collectors level (which is the only way to advance in the game and get more cards), you're more or less stuck upgrading base art cards, or the same few variants over and over. It used to be that you could save up enough gold in about a week or so to where you could buy a card variant from your shop, to the point where my friends and I looked forward to checking it daily. Now it'll take a few weeks (rough math might be off) to save up enough gold. So unless you want to pay $10 for a rare variant, or $20 for a super rare, you're not likely getting new variants (let alone the one you want) any time soon.

Now on to my second main gripe, the support is none existent. I had a case where I tabbed back into the steam client of the game and it automatically bought a card from the shop, with no confirmation, when I didn't even have the daily shop on my screen. So there's $10 worth of gold down the drain on a card I couldn't care less for. The real kicker is the support agent I brought this up to said there was not only nothing they could do to re-compensate me for the gold, but that they were already aware that this glitch was an issue, and more or less told me "sorry sucks to suck".

So back to my starting statement. After putting over $100+ (mostly CS:GO skin money I'm not a real whale) into this game that at the time I wanted to support, because I genuinely enjoy the game-play and love the art, I'm now stuck playing it without a way to consistently obtain new art (or cards for that matter, I'm almost 2000 cl and am missing 48 pool 3 cards, but that's another can of worms), I feel cheated out of my money from a bug that the devs knew about, and if I were to drop it, the money I spent already would just feel wasted.

Ultimately this review is a way for me to vent, but if I'm having to vent my frustrations about a game in a review then I suppose it's not a game worth recommending.

If you're thinking of picking it up, don't unless changes are made to acquisition of both cards and card variants.

And if someone at Second Dinner happens to reads this, stop ruining your game with greed based changes, it was already a money printer.

Edit after an additional 183 hours (don't judge me):

Things are slowly getting better on the consumer end, gold acquisition is still no where where it used to be, but it is getting better, Still only 200 a week from completing enough daily challenges, but they've started giving you a chance to earn 300 from the weekend challenges (if you own the right cards, which tend to be locked behind the $10 battle pass or collector tokens).

At the end of the day my view is still pretty much the same, the game is really fun, the art is great, and it's nice to see them start doing free events for players such as special log in bonuses and twitch drops, but if you are a player that isn't looking to spend money playing a free to play card game, then card acquisition will be a slog for you, and you will spend a long time either fighting bots or players with better cards than you, and you'll need to wait 3-4 weeks at times (assuming you don't have the cards for the weekend challenges) in order to get a rare variant (the lowest tier) of a card, from a rotating randomized daily shop.

If you're someone who is fine at minimum paying $10 a month for the battle-pass, then I recommend this game, but if you're looking for a free to play experience, the card acquisition system that they promise "promotes" a free to play system that will put you as equals to those who spend money due to your collection level, is nothing but a trap to get people to play, as anybody who spends money can obtain as many pool 3-5 cards as they want through gold/collector tokens. If you don't care about what cards your opponents have, then as f2p it's playable, but it will be months (maybe a little over a year) for you to get all pool 3 cards considering you complete every daily mission, and you'll only have as many pool 4/5 cards as you do spotlight caches cause collector token acquisition is still abysmal (1000 for a duplicate pool 4/5 card when they at minimum cost 3000 and 100 from collector reserves? Come on Second Dinner).

p.s. If someone at Second Dinner happens to read this, make the skin shop rotate every 4-8 hours like every other refresh-able in your game, as it being the only thing to refresh every 24 hours is ridiculous. It will ultimately make you more money, while giving players a better chance to get the cards they want. Its a win-win.

Really fun and addicting game. For the price you get your moneys worth. I hope to see more content added over time but am fine without it since like I said, for the price what you get is good.

(Edit since full release: If you are even considering this game you should pull the trigger. New content tends to be added regularly, and it's well polished when released)

I would also like to see more color palette options added. I get that that goes against the main aesthetic of the game, but as is when it gets hectic enough, it can be kind of hard telling what is what. I could only imagine how wonky trying to play this while colorblind would be. But overall, you learn that your character is always center screen so its not the biggest issue.

I played it for 23 hours straight. If that doesn't say something then I don't know what to tell you.
