I mean, it's not BAD.
But I can't recommend it. It lacks a lot of small little improvement features and stuff that should have been on PC. They're straight ports with an awful UI and nothing else because 343i has maybe two people working on it. It's clear that they're releasing this to try and get some hype going for Halo: Infinite but it's not working because no one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cares about Halo: Infinite and are just frustrated with the poor porting job of MCC. MCC wasn't even that good on Xbox One, either. So they knew this and added a modded executable to the game so hopefully people will buy it if the fans fix it but a lot of the stuff that needs to be fixed for the game to be a decent port to the PC is hardcoded into the source code that only 343i has.

Buy it for the campaign but no one wants to play this online anymore. You can't even crouch while moving.

Back in the day this was the chance to finally break away from the dying, antiquated engine of BF2 (which hosts Project Reality, a mod still holding on and getting updates) and make improvements on the system. Having a working, non-stretched map that actually told you why you weren't allowed to spawn at a FOB was great. Not having to wipe basically the whole squad just to kill someone was also great. These things were forgivable in PR because the engine was limited, but now in Squad the game has moved towards these things once again, in a desperate bid to attract more players.
Besides, you know, not actually doing that, adding mod support that doesn't matter because no one ever moves from the licensed server tab, and fostering a community that also hates new players, I'm not really sure what the point is anymore.

Why the ♥♥♥♥ do they spend time meticulously modelling and gaining the licenses to real-world weapons and then use locking the slide back as the pistol reload animation?
It doesn't even make sense from a gameplay standpoint as it just means that the pistols are useless because they run out of bullets fast.

CS:GO is a game designed in a way that makes it so you can't just run around corners and quickscope people. The maps are also designed to facilitate this style of gameplay.
This game has the map design of CS:GO with the gameplay of CoD2. Basically, it could be a better combination.

PS It's not Early Access anymore, there's no excuse for why having someone leave on your team means you should take an L or be forced to play through the whole doomed game if you don't want to accrue a penalty.

Three updates after installing and there's still no punishment for leavers. Weapons are still horrifically unbalanced. No new maps and the ones that exist will have you going AVGN levels of "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?" It's still impossible to hear anyone's footsteps so everyone just drops on you.
Fix your ♥♥♥♥, developers. This game has the potential to be amazing but you're squandering it all.

Most minigames suck without guides, sorry. Rest of the game is good. Nisihikiyama is a ♥♥♥. Batting sucks. Game crashes when you accidentally disconnect controller. Fix ♥♥♥♥, Atlus.

I could complain about the censorship but that would besides the point. This isn't a very good game. What I will say regarding this is that all the Redditors who suddenly have something to say when a neon sign of a woman gets censored and gambling gets taken out of a game but had nothing to say when "negro" (which might have been a good thing since it got a lot of Mexicans out of the game) got your account perma-banned automatically are getting their just desserts.

This is honestly my fault for buying this piece of ♥♥♥♥. I should have seen the writing on the wall. It was there from the beginning. Good games don't have a F2P microtransaction economy in their $60 full price game with $30 DLC season passes. They just don't. Good games don't take a season off of content creation to ♥♥♥♥ around with the ranked maps, putting bad maps in the rotation, taking good maps, out, then barely fixing the game, making everyone wonder what the ♥♥♥♥ they were working on. Good games don't overload the game with characters that start to overlap, not only ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the balance of the game, but also destroying the once semi-realistic character design the game had. Good games don't have a ranking system that's still in beta, is unplayable without 4 other friends, and a casual mode that's used exclusively by trolls. Good games don't focus more on banning people who say the n-word than they do on banning hackers, griefers, and all-around toxic players. Good games DON'T HAVE A FANBASE THAT DEFENDS ALL OF THIS THEN SUDDENLY GETS ANGRY WHEN A FEW SLOT MACHINES ARE TAKEN AWAY.

This game's heyday will always be right after it came out. Before people realized 3-speeds could be abused, back when the base operators basically covered any situation and figuring out HOW to breach a room was part of the fun. The playerbase wasn't small (I've played smaller), but it was generall full of mature adults, guys who had played the previous games in the series, and guys who wanted something different out of their average FPS. Due to it's increase in popularity and the constant quad-yearly updates, it's not only become a shadow of what it once was, but has been infected by a playerbase of squeakers, ragers, third-worlders, boomerang players (those who only come back for every update), and easily-offended casuals.

Addendum: Many people bought into this early on for the interesting dynamic that breaching heavily reinforced rooms, or defending those reinforced rooms, brought to the table. Now, the game is CS:GO with wall penetration, sometimes-better sometimes-worse ability to hear footsteps, and hero abilities. Your ability to click heads and control a set-pattern of recoil (which was added in a later update to be more like CS) is more important than your team strategy. If you want proof of this, see how many later operators have abilities that focus around 1v5'ing, or abilities that could be considered "support" abilities as compared to the original operators, whose abilities were almost entirely focused on either breaching or defending a room from breaching.

If you feel like turning all of your comfortable, quaint 50's buildings into disgusting post-modernist vomit-on-a-blueprint, go right head.

While a great game whose only real flaws are a buggy UI and 1 or 2 stiff animations, the game itself is as dead as dead can be. See Steam Charts for the details.

If anything, this is a testament that Early Access is a terrible model for a multiplayer only game. In this market where player retention is difficult to achieve and the consumers are spread too thin between multiplayer games, you should never let your players burn themselves out on an unfinished verison of the game. If you like this, you might be able to find the occassional match in Bloodline Champions.

However, it's definitely a great fighting game. Some might compare it to a MOBA but it's not even close. Could it have a few more characters and maps? Sure, but what it does have is high quality.

If you can find a dedicated playerbase in your friends, and you see yourself playing a game with a non-existant playerbase for a long time as a "Friday Night Game," then you have chosen well. If you're hoping for a grind through ranked among random players both skilled and unskilled, then good luck even getting to level 2.

I can only really give it a thumbs up, because I hope that somehow, someone will see this and help grow the playerbase.

I have a hard time recomending it now, because there is likely a meta here that could make a good game, but currently it feels very stupid. Unfortunately, in order to discover that meta, we need more people playing the game.

As a fighting game player, I'm a traditionalist, but at the same time, I like seeing experiments like this. I just hope that one day this can be more than an experiment.
