Zaparcia to zbyt rzadkie wypróżnienia, czyli 2 razy w tygodniu lub rzadziej. Stolce są wtedy twarde, oddawane z wysiłkiem i często towarzyszącym uczuciem niepełnego wypróżnienia. Problem ten dotyczy 20-30 proc. populacji i zdecydowanie częściej występuje u kobiet niż u mężczyzn.
