An amazing sandbox game with a very active community for years!
Definitely a must for Steam gamers.
There are tons of addons, soo...
While the base game requires 5 gigabytes of space, make sure you save 20 gigs. :3

This game most likely sets itself in the description as "Simulation", it's not. And for that matter, I do NOT recommend it to the average player.

This being said, I did indeed like the game, but I do not recommend as it has a mislabel.

Jane's Advance Strike Fighters is completely arcade; the only physics to the game would be your thrust with minimal turning resistance based on the plane. Upon playing it, I do not feel any other force such as the pull of gravity when pushing the nose down, so divebombing is mainly an easy tactic on ground forces.
It's a great time killer, but the difficulty is pretty hard even for 'Normal'.
The one thing I'd hate about this game is that the physics also applies to missles- they are not realistic. To dodge a missle, your plane has to be a good 80-100 degrees perpendicular to it... and a certain speed. Or else you will be spammed from all angles no matter what your manuevers are. I personally do like this as my hobby of airplanes is the A-10 Thunderbolt, which is useful at the beginning of the game, but soon gets overwhelmed and hit by missles from all angles JUST because the SPEED isn't fast enough. I have no problem handling this airplane in 'simulated' games such as Ace Combat, Hawx, or DCS Universe. This puts VERY hard aggression on difficulty and on levels you will face many deaths because of this flaw- the good thing is that every in-mission objective is its own checkpoint to restart from... but your time flying from point A to point B and repetition of in-game voice will be super annoying.

This game does feature some level with friendlies... but they mostly get killed in the first few minutes, even if you're quick to destroy the enemy fighters. And by "Some" levels, I mean about 2-3, out of a good 20 missions it has. (approximate)
You will be mostly alone listening to the dialogue of your Base Control and your Pilot... which in honest opinion Base Control is a very stupid decision maker sometimes and often contradicts himself... let alone your pilot sounds like someone who's very enthusiastic... but doesn't know anything that's going on in the world around him. Most of the time I'd just want to fly back to base and bomb it.

Gameplay is quite fast, as said it's arcade, but it's pretty good in non-heptic moments. There's bugs in the game, sometimes it will crash on you in-game so expect those grudges. There was even a moment in game where a convoy I was supposed to protect was killed... I got overwhelmed. Yet a fail screen never came up: the dead convoy's dialogue continued regularly and I ended up finishing the mission with a completion. Okies....
The game does offer some challenges, perhaps a third to half the missions require you to fly low through enemy territory (which amusingly the enemy territory is down the block from your base... I don't know how they never bothered to send a bomber squadron over) so many of of the missions are air-ground combat with missle defenses shooting at you and you looking for a radar tower nearby before continuing with whatever objective you are to destroy. What I do like is a nice double-tap boost the game offers, makes you flick your afterburners to ridiculous speeds close to the ground, the graphics is nice, and the pressure on turning changes dramatically, so make sure you want to do this where you can fly straight.
Soundtrack is repetitive, but quite calming at times. I do like how ever engagement changes the music, so you'd know if you're being attack and you won't go crazy with the same sounds over and over.

Overall, likable game to the Arcade person. Completely disliked by those looking for simulation. For the price... I'd say get it on sale. It's not really worth a full price.

Pros
  • Very Arcadish, Time waster if not too serious
  • Soothing Soundtrack, not obnoxious.
  • Good airplane graphics and building detail, terrain graphics could be better made.

Cons
  • Not Simulative: Querky missles will RUIN your day
  • Poor Dialogue to the main roles
  • Lonely feeling many of the missions- Enemies can easily overrun you
  • Enemies have slightly LONGER firing range than you- WATCH OUT. Take the easy one at a time to win.
  • Hitboxes on ground units may be bugged.. rendering machinegun partially useless (But it still helps)

AWESOME Massive Online Multiplayer Role Playing Game

Ragnarok has been my third RPG game that I have probably ever played. The first two, League of Legends and Dofus, really weren't the greatest thing- hence role playing games aren't my selectable game genre. But Ragnarok is quite pleasurable for casual gamers.

The game features the usual Role Playing tactic in which you build your character in your first few levels, then take a pernmament "job" that determines the type of player you play forever. Of course, some people might get bored of their class eventually, but Ragnarok makes up for this lack. Ragnarok allows you to have three character profiles at a time. So if you are willing to start fresh or try another character class, you can! No more having to stick to one destiny for the rest of
E T E R N I T Y .

Ragnarok can be confusing to new players, the game is open freely and vast, and easy to get lost in. you will spawn at first near the heart of the entire game map, from there you can build up your job skill, then be let go into the depths of Ragnarok's world. All areas have different mobs that can be passive or hostile, they also vary by Level everywhere. You can find a relaxing spot here and there with easy passive mobs, or you can run into a mob that is 40 levels HIGHER than you, and it WILL ATTACK you at it's will. This leaves gamers to be adventureous, alert, and competitive. This concept is what probably brings in my attention.

Ragnarok is also fun to play with friends. Beacause it is Free to Play, you can ask your friend to join without any worries. The probable downside is you have to create an account on their website, which shouldn't be too hard if you have spare emails for probable spam.

I highly recommend this game to great RPG players who are looking for challenge, Ragnarok, despite the other RPGs I have played, really adds up to have many differences that give players more freedom. Role Playing Gamers would not be disappointed.
I somewhat recommend this game to those who casually play RPGs, Ragnarok Online is a great game to play on your spare time, but sometimes you can get really lost like me - if that happens.... pray that you'll make it back without dying, or just die and respawn at the heart of the map, you get to keep your stuff, but you loose some of your experience. Oops.

The Best of It's Kind.

As far as the amount of bullet hell shooters on Steam, there are very few to none, but Ikaruga really makes up for that loss. This game will have you playing and raging for hours if you are new to bullet hell shooters. But even an experienced player might have it hard to dodge bullets while remmebering to change polarity, because believe me, this game has those impossible moments where getting hit is your only option.
Ikaruga is known to be a rare gem for it's original Dreamcast release, and also for it's Gamecube port. It has since then been available in the Xbox Live Arcade store, but many people, such as me, don't have XBox, and I have been trying to obtain the Gamecube version for a while now, but paying 30-50 dollars for a rare gem is still pricy for me.
Thanks To Treasure you have now have this beatiful masterpiece for 10 dollars.

I highly recommend the game, it is fully epic and will keep you on your toes. The level descriptions have you wondering what purpose you have in Ikaruga, but for sure it will keep you trying until you succeed. While looking for a chance to buy this game on Gamecube, I have been playing it for a few months now on a Dreamcast Emulator that ran at around 40 frames a second, the game would lag behind the music, but it was still playable. As soon as I heard about it going on Steam, I quickly got a hold of it.
<strikethrough>My only disappointment is that this game NEEDS internet connection for the leaderboards and for it to boot. I spend most of my time offline, and well, the game can not work without an internet connection. So if you really love this game (like I do), I suggest getting a emulator at least for Dreamcast and having that as a backup ^-^. This is the main reason why I want to buy the game for Gamecube, but bidders keep stealing >.> - Haha!</strikethrough>

THIS GAME NOW SUPPOTS OFFLINE MODE, Thanks to Treasure! Fully worth it's price!

Well worth the price here on Steam, check the game out, get irritated, and HAVE SO MUCH FUN!

REPETITIVE, BUT A THRILLER!

I have gone through this game once, and the storyline is fantastic at about 10 hours in lenght if you're up to explore it at your pace. This game is very fun on my own spare time, and playing at night makes it even funner.

In all, this game I do not recommend for people who are looking for straight up shooters, because this isn't that type of game. The gameplay is about survival and keeping your thoughts keen to the point that you want to save your ammo correctly while trying to hold off massive ambushing crowds of enemies.
Of course, you only fight about a total of 5 types of enemies in the entire game, but that doesnt' stop this game from keeping to your toes and spinning frantically around trying to watch your back in every dark area you never trust. The mini-bosses you will encounter will also make it extra fun, from bulldozers, to flying trains! (Kidding? Maybe.)

Although the action can often be repetitive with those 5 enemy types, the story itself I find unique, it will start out vague like any other horror game, you will understand nothing at all. But progression through the game, you start to map together possibilities, those possibilities become facts or lies along the way- I would frankly say this story is mysterious and can be traiterous to your thoughts and feelings. It is surely a fun ride to hitch!

I highly recommend this game to any curious player looking for a good game to kill time with, and really recommend it to those that want to play 'a good game' in the dark of the night. Because this game's atmosphere is just fantastic, the howling winds will surely want you to keep running to the light, avoid the darkness, and remember to sleep with that flashlight under your pillow!
