Gameplay is repetitive, but the chaos wastes mode is pretty fun with friends.

It's an interesting mix of L4D and Borderlands; but it doesn't do either style exceptionally well (
That being said, it is satisfying to cleave through hordes of mobs).

Technically smooth except for weird networking issues that, AFAIK, require a complete PC restart to sort out.

Grab it on sale if out if you like the lore or have a group of friends who want to get it (or if it's free!). Wouldn't recommend, otherwise.

While FF9 is not my absolute favourite game in the series, it is, from an objective place of analysis, the best and closest to the ideal "Final Fantasy" that there is.

Overall, I give FF9 4.5 villainous man thongs out of 5.

Continuing to call the genre "metroidvania" after playing this feels a little disrespectful. Show some respect to this bug!

Good story, music, characters, gameplay. Overall, it's among the best in the series and aged really well compared to other 20 year old games (Just don't play the chocobo riding minigames.. ). If you like turn-based JRPGs, then I can wholeheartedly recommend this one.

Although this is easier to play than FF7 (Due to refinement of overworld graphics and overall gameplay), It's probably my least favorite of the PS1 era FFs. The GF system, while cool in concept, is awkward and grindy in practice and just leads to lots of drawing/grinding with party compositions based on which character you like most (as their stats are heavily tied to the GF). Also, for me personally it was hard to get attached to any of the main characters (and the main romance feels rushed to boot).

Despite these shortcomings, it's still a FF game, and that means that you get to explore a massive world with a large variation of environments and enemies to encounter. The soundtrack is top tier, even amoung FF games, and there's a bunch of extra content in the optional Triple Triad card game and chocobo forests.

I'd say it's worth a buy to complete the collection. However, I'd say start with 9 (or even 6,7, or 10) if you're looking for your first FF.

Base game + all DLC for the price of a meal at a mediocre restaurant is an absolute steal for one of (if not the) greatest RPGs on Steam.

PS. Ciri rules!

Nothing less than a revolution in the gaming industry that will keep gamers busy for years to come, just as the original did.
