This game definitely has potential, but there are way too many problems to justify playing it in its current state.

I understand that this game is in early access, but that doesn't justify the problems that it currently has, of which it has plenty. Some may be fixed over time, others are baked into the game's core.

First off, this game crashes constantly. I'm talking roughly every five-fifteen minutes. Every once in a while I get lucky and can play the game for upwards of half an hour without dealing with crashes, but I guarantee at least half of my total playtime in this game has been spent re-doing things I've already done. Just too unstable currently. I’m sure this will be fixed in due time, but if stability is really really important to you, then don’t buy this game until more patches and stability fixes get rolled out. That being said, the next few problems I have are baked into the overall design of the game, and this is where I feel the game truly falters.

Next, the game's art-style is bland and uninspired. It looks like almost every other generic survival game that's been made over the last 10-12 years, with no unique visual design to make it stand out.

One of the symptoms of this very issue are the small collectibles within the world. When you press the ALT key, it brings up labels for almost every interactable item, like sticks and stones on the ground, un-built structures, etc. These extra item labels are helpful in theory for seeing small items, but due to the bland art-style of this game, it feels almost like a necessity to have it active. This is because things like twigs, small stones and other items are nearly impossible to see, both because of how small they are, and how they completely blend in with the tall grass and greenery all throughout the game.

This entire problem could’ve been avoided by either making the game first-person, which places your field of view much closer to the ground so you can see small items better, or by making the graphics cartoony and less realistic, which allows the designers to incorporate lots of extra detail into the items such as cel-shading, pixelating, etc.

"But why is this such a problem?" you may ask? Because this extra labeling creates HORRIBLE UI clutter that makes the game simply unappealing to look at, which is a real shame considering it’s almost required to have it active in order to see the small items. So you're basically stuck between either:

1: Playing this game without additional labeling, which makes many of the collectibles nearly impossible to see.
2: Playing this game WITH the additional labeling, which horrendously clutters the UI and actively takes you out of the experience.

This issue with the UI clutter and bland art-style of the game is not something I feel can be fixed without a complete art-style overhaul, which I don't see happening any time soon.

This game either needed a more refined art-style to accommodate small collectibles without the need of excessive UI and hud elements, or a completely different art-style entirely.

The last big problem with this game is the inventory system. It's much less conventional than other games, where instead of items taking up one or two units of inventory space, the space that they take is more so geared to the way you have your inventory sorted.

For example, items like long sticks take up LOTS of vertical space in your inventory, so you can sort your inventory vertically to accommodate them. On the contrary, other items like your sleeping bag may take up more horizontal space instead, meaning you should then sort your inventory horizontally to accommodate it. This is an interesting system in theory, though it once again feels cluttered and un-intuitive. You’re never making the most of your inventory space, so you often end up returning to base with lots of empty slots because the items you tried picking up can’t be rotated in any way, which detracts from the fun of gathering items in the world. A long stick takes up six vertical slots in my inventory, but I have eight horizontal slots holding NOTHING. Why can’t I flip those sticks around in my inventory so I’m not wasting what little precious space I have? It’s just bad design.

Overall, in spite of the issues I have with some of this game’s design aspects, this may still be a game worth checking out in the future, but the main detraction from this game right now is the stability. I’m sure in a few months this game won’t have the kind of stability problems it has right now, but until that gets fixed, I can’t recommend this game currently.

I’ll be updating my review as patches are rolled out :)

This whole game serves as an allegory for why you shouldn't run away from your problems. The setting and the characters all play their part in driving this narrative, and it does so incredibly.

Life isn't about wallowing in the bleak moments, or trying your best to escape from them, life is about salvaging meaning from those same bleak moments. Life is always going to be full of hardships, and running away from them doesn't solve anything. This game is a beautiful example of that.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying the occasional distractions from our everyday lives, but you also shouldn't lose sight of what's important. You can take a new job far away, drink lots of alcohol or play video games all you want, but all that does is delay the inevitable. When life gets rough, it's up to you to make the correct decisions to better your situation, and losing yourself in temporary bids of escapism will only make the challenges ahead more difficult to face.

This game was a truly unique experience, and I can't recommend it enough!

Wow. I mean wow. This is the first time I've played Overwatch in almost a year, and I can't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ believe how unfun it is. My favorite character Doomfist, got nerfed into the ground so hard, it feels like he has the combat prowess of a quadriplegic baby. He was the most fun part of the game for me, and they ruined him. Absolutely abhorrent design by Blizzard.

This is a great game but this steam port has way too many problems to warrant a purchase. Now I've gotta say in terms of core game play and story it's pretty damn good. It seems the damage weapons do is a little inconsistent, sometimes I hit a guy point blank with a shotgun and he doesn't die, other times he can be a good 30ft away and I 1 shot him. Not a huge deal but a little annoying. The controls are okay but sometimes it feels like you're stuck against something when there's nothing there, also not a huge deal but it's still there. Now here's the juicy part. This port is a crippled broken down MESS of bugs, and is everything bad you could expect from a steam port. 1st of all the cut scene audio is gone. It just isn't there, you have to download a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ patch online and install it yourself in your Max Payne file directory to get it to work. How the ♥♥♥♥ is something as important as THE CUT SCENE AUDIO bugged? 2nd of all is the Vinnie Gognitti chase scene. I have no idea what the developers were smoking at this part, because it's inexcusably broken. As you chase Vinnie down a flight of stairs, he sends 3 goons after you in an in-game cut-scene, as in not a cinematic one but one that happens through the game play. The problem is that the camera moves away from you, and in the faces of the goons as they pull out their weapons, and the camera doesn't go back to normal for what feels like an eternity. Essentially what happens is the camera gets stuck on a point where you can't even see your character or the bad guys, giving you no chance against the 3 guys as they gang up on you. Yes, you WILL die during this scene, and it will most likely take you multiple tries until you can bypass it. It's basically a choice of either fighting 3 guys while controlling a character, ALL OF WHICH you can't even see, or loading and playing the scene enough times that you can memorise how to get back up the stairs, again without even looking at it. It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous. After a little while of chasing Vinnie I eventually caught up to him and finally killed him. After the cut-scene I assumed I had to enter the door in front of his body. No? Okay what about the other doors on this floor? No? Well I looked it up, and apparently the next chapter is supposed to start as soon as you kill him, and guess what? IT DIDN'T! I was stuck in chapter 7 because chapter 8 refused to load after the boss was killed. So I decided to load up an old save, play through the entire chase scene again, including the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the broken camera on the stairs when Vinnie sends his goons after you, and thankfully it didn't happen again. You wanna know why? BECAUSE VINNIE DIDN'T EVEN LOAD INTO THE GAME PROPERLY! After you get passed the part with the broken camera on the stairs, he's supposed to run outside and trigger a scene where he uses an elevator to escape from you. He was there the first time, but after I loaded an old save because chapter 8 wouldn't start, he just disappeared! I now have no choice but to try reinstalling the game, and hoping that Vinnie loads in properly, and chapter 8 starts after I kill him, but at the moment I really just don't feel like it. Overall, my short amount of time in this game isn't a matter of not liking it, this game is great with lots of charm and pretty solid gameplay for 2001, but this port to steam is nothing short of a catastrophe. Between needing to download mods just to get the game working properly, and chapters that don't load into the next one after completing it, the steam version of this game is a nutty brown pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I might update my review if I can get it working bug free in the future, but the fact that the base game is so broken that mods are the only way I can even play it properly is just plain ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.

Surprisingly, this game actually has good depth and thought put into it. It's bright and cartoony style mixed with the dark themes of shady back-alley drug dealing makes this game charming and interesting. It has nice and thought-out mechanics, and it's pretty fun for a demo. I wouldn't mind spending money for the full game :)

Personally not really my cup of tea. I prefer cartoony games like TF2 or overwatch, but still a good game and understandable why people like it. No downside if you choose to check it out cause it's free now, so give it a try :)
