Removed from customers' Steam libraries without warning or explanation. Not sure how I can recommend a game there are no guarantees you'll be allowed to keep, regardless of whether its a decent experience or not. Very disappointing.

UPDATE: The "solution" quoted by the developers' response to my review has turned out to be heavily discounting the Agony bundle and then having original customers buy it again. Regardless of fault (they seem obsessed with stating who's fault it is like this makes any difference in the grand scheme of things), this is not an adequate solution and I'd question whether it was even legal in certain regions like the EU.

I for one will not be re-purchasing the game, it might have been free with the censored version, but the truth is we bought a package, my money either way went to the same developer for the products they quoted. This has now been ripped away and placed behind another pay wall. Will steer well clear of this developer from now on. Lesson learned.

A great mix of Carmageddon like carnage and Mad Max like aesthetics. Tested the game during its development and its come a long way over the months. Looking forward to maybe some single player content like a mini-campaign or something.

P.S - the soundtrack is incredible.

One of the best cinematic experiences I've ever had in an open-world action adventure game. I should mention that I never played the 2002 version of this game (not that it should matter, that's not what I'm reviewing), so I can't comment on what improvements or negatives this game brings over the classic. But what I can say is that I loved every second of it, the story and characters had me hooked right from the start and the gameplay was as enjoyable and accessible as any other modern day masterpiece.

The graphics aren't flawless but they are enough to give you some real moments of awe and make the world feel like the genuine 30s era it was made to represent. Unlike modern GTAs, which to me feel incredibly clunky and heavy when it comes to controls, 2020's Mafia feels almost perfect, the animations still hold enough realism and fluidity but don't leave you feeling like you're controlling a rusty tin man. The cover system, third person aiming and general movement of your character all feel serviceable and nothing feels janky or sluggish.

The story is where this game truly shines, if you want a city to cause mayhem and destruction in, it's technically possible to do in Mafia (to a degree), but there's certainly more appropriate open-world games for that. Mafia tells a gripping story with relatable characters in a believable setting and it doesn't stop delivering until the game is done. It's not stupidly long but its not disappointingly short either, more games need to be self aware enough to know when to bring things to a close and Mafia knows just the right time to do this (although I'd not have said no to a couple more hours of content).

I haven't played Mafia 2 or 3 yet (although I plan to following this review), but I know the ending to the Mafia 1 ties the beginning of Mafia 2 in to its storyline and I was giddy with anticipation to see where the plot would lead during the sequel. I'm usually more a gameplay first and story second kinda guy, but Mafia did both of them so equally well, that by time it was all over, the story was what ended up leaving the biggest impression on me.

I think people who rate this game negatively just because it doesn't do a few things that the classic did to their liking is a joke and part of the reason I'm leaving this review at all. If you prefer the classic that's great, it's still sold and playable on Steam today, but that does not make this a poor modern re-imagining of the original Mafia on its own. Many people will never play the original due to its age (understandably) and if its between play the remake or never experience Mafia at all, I'd like to hope most Mafia fans would encourage people to play the remake, if anything just to influence more people to experience the joy of its story, characters and setting.

No remake will ever be perfect, that's practically impossible. But if the team have enough love, appreciation and respect for the source material, any remake would be lucky to turn out as impressive and captivating as this one.

9/10

I was always an Unreal Tournament fan when I was a kid (odd because I never played the Unreal games but was in love with the Quake titles), content as I was with my choice I never really gave Quake III much of a chance, most likely as I felt the skill ceiling was much higher in that game and I did not have the time nor patience to perfect the art.

Having since grown up and watched 90s twitchy FPS online shooters basically vanish from existence, it was nice to hear that games like Unreal Tournament and Quake Champions are finally making a return. Now I've tried both and despite their early access status, Quake Champions is light years ahead in terms of polish and refinement - the game could probably release as is now and be a worthy revival of the genre. However CoD, Halo and battle royale games have essentially killed off any chance of these games being at the forefront of the competitive multiplayer scene, which is a shame considering how much more skill is involved to become any good in them.

Quake Champions keeps just enough of the original formula and brings just enough modern design and functionality to have it feel like a true successor to Quake III / Quake Live. I urge any of you that were or are in to any old school arena shooters of any kind to give Quake Champions a try, at the very least its the last decent game to hold the Quake name since 1999.

No support for ultrawide resolutions. Avoid if you have hardware that already makes this remaster look outdated.

One (or two in this case) of the most under-rated stealth/FPS games of all time. Even if you aren't a massive Riddick or stealth genre fan (such as myself), there is still so much to enjoy and appreciate in this game.

To clarify for those who might not be aware, it comes with both Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena Riddick games, the first originally released in 2004, now running in an updated engine with improved visuals.

The voice acting and stealth mechanics are in my opinion, second to none. The atmosphere is dark and gritty and the gameplay is impeccable, at least for its time - as are the graphics, for games released in 2004 and 2009 respectively, the graphics of both titles hold up even to some games released today and weren't far off ground breaking at their time of release.

This collection is no longer sold on Steam or GoG and is becoming increasingly harder to find online, so if you're interested or like the Riddick universe and/or stealth titles, do yourself a favour and keep a keen eye out for this game, you won't regret it and quite frankly you owe the experience to yourself.

I really enjoy this game a lot. I've always wanted a VR drumming game because playing in the real world has always been way too much of an inconvenience to my circumstances, both in the space and noise department.

There are many loosely tied together virtual reality drumming games, most of which are just simulators, with no backing tracks or assistance to help you learn to do anything besides just make a lot of banging.

Drums Hero is the first game I've tried that gives me that Guitar Hero/Rockband feeling, it has nearly 30 tracks (when paired with the DLC), which is comparable to some much bigger games in the field. All the music included is mostly unknown songs from indie artists from multiple genres (from rock to dance), but they're pretty decent choices and none of the tracks come across as low quality or talentless, I even sought some of them out on Spotify.

My main issue with the game is the very first track you are given to play, it would appear to be the theme tune to the actual game and it is just simply broken, every note is out of tune and impossible to keep in time with. Its a real downer and probably puts a lot of first-time players off from sticking with the game. It boggles my mind that their own song wasn't tested to the same level as the other tracks in the game because all of those are for the most part, perfectly in sync and a joy to play.

I'll keep coming back to this game and will buy any DLC that is released to build my collection of tracks to play and I suggest that anyone who is interested to give it a shot, at least for the first 3-4 tracks as the first one is bound to leave a bad taste in your mouth.

I have fond memories of Cannon Fodder 1 and to some extent, 2. However my memory of their near perfection isn't quite the reality and after revisiting them on GOG.com I was sad to find out that they have some glaring flaws some 30 years after the initial release. Not taking anything away from the original titles, I love them dearly, but they're harder to enjoy today.

Cannon Fodder 3 (not from original team), also has its own flaws but as a package I actually found myself having a lot of fun. It keeps the core concept of Cannon Fodder 1 and 2 but gives it a much needed modern splash of paint.

PROS
- Fun and fluid gameplay
- Bright, colourful and detailed graphics
- Classic mouse only or keyboard and mouse controls
- Full building destruction and fun use of explosives
- Ultrawide resolution and aspect ratio support (rare for even AAA devs today)
- Built-in achievements
- Decent cutscenes and humour

♥♥♥♥
- 2-3 minute loading times per mission (can be easily fixed, check guides)
- Boring and generic soundtrack
- Poor translation and voice acting
- Loose and floaty camera
- No Steam features (achievements/cloud saves etc.)
- Seemingly broken multiplayer?

Summary

Cannon Fodder 3 isn't perfect but without wearing rose tinted glass, neither were the first two. There's many 'spiritual successors' and shameless copies of Cannon Fodder and while I've given a lot of them a fair shot, I actually think the official third title gets closest to the classics, failing that possibly Tiny Troopers.

I got the game in a bundle and having paid full price I might have felt a little disappointed, but for the couple quid I paid, I'm more than happy with what I got. Get it on sale and give it a chance.
