Early Access Review
A fun, open world driving sandbox where you get to try a range of different little jobs and tasks. They all kinda revolve around "start at A, drive to B" but tasks themselves can be done in under 10 minutes usually so its a nice, relaxing experience overall.

A very nice change of scenery from TSW3, and the multiplayer feature really is a game changer.

Good game.

But the lesson in "how-to-trash-your-life-using-patch-notes" is much, much more entertaining. To do it for such moronic views as well? Lmao.

Fun game, easy to pick up but with plenty of management depth for those who like that kind of thing. Definitely scratches that Theme Hospital nostalgia itch. All in all, strongly recommended.

I would highly recommend this game - it is without doubt one of the better Simulation games out there today. On balance, it is probably the best bus sim available too.

Although the game does come with enough "gamey" mechanics to keep people entertained and busy, usual conditions apply to this: if you don't fancy the idea of driving a bus, and don't think you'll get enjoyment out of just driving around and picking up/dropping off passengers, you won't enjoy the game as much as you could. If driving around the map sounds like something you'd enjoy, dive right in.

Graphics & Performance

With my 1070 and my i7-6700, the game runs at a relatively steady 40 to 60 FPS depending on the time of day, number of AI vehicles and part of the map I'm driving on (with max settings). The FPS does drop significantly once a driving route is completed for some reason, but this is a known issue that will be fixed so nothing to worry about.

The game itself looks extremely good, and the UE4 does shine through quite well here. The busses are well detailed, the world is stunning, and the rain effects are some of the best rain effects I have seen in a simulation game. The passengers themselves look & feel a little robotic, but are more than convincing enough visually to not break the immersion.

Gameplay

While a simulation game at heart, the game has drawn from other similar sims such as ETS2 and provides quite a bit of game-content to help you through. In Bus Sim 18, you run a bus company: you develop your routes, purchase and assign busses, hire drivers and customise your busses. As you drive each route, your driving is assessed both in terms of the revenue you make, and the 'reputation' of your company (higher if you drive well, lower if you mess up). All in all, you are not just aimlessly driving a bus - the game does give you plenty to do in the process.

The game also comes with a map-unlock system, where you are expected to complete 'missions' or 'quests' to unlock various parts of the map as your company progresses. While many of these missions can feel a little grindy, most of them can actually be completed relatively quickly if you focus on them, providing a good balance between grind and progression.

The bus driving itself is enjoyable. Random events such as passengers blocking doors, listening to loud music or requiring a disabled-access ramp to enter/leave your bus, keep the game interesting. The different busses do feel and drive differently. Although I am not able to provide a real-world comparison, the driving in this game is fun and easy to pick up.

In terms of controls, the game recognised both my Logitech G29 and my TrackIR within seconds, allowing me to use both in the game effortlessly. The game also came with a preset for the G29 that I have been using, saving me a considerable amount of setup time. Other users have reported some issues with other controllers so make sure to read up on this a little bit if you are not going to use a steering wheel.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer is another massive part of the game's appeal, allowing you share your world with 3 other friends (or strangers). In multiplayer, you are either able to drive separate buses, or you can also do a 'co-op drive' where two drivers operate the same bus (one as driver, the other as ticket checker or whatever else).

Multiplayer is highly enjoyable, although it is clearly less stable than the single player version of the game. I experienced some rubber-banding, some difficulties connecting and some game-breaking bugs that prevented me from driving busses in multiplayer. Once again, others have reported a very smooth experience, so your own mileage may vary - and updates will most likely fix these issues sooner rather than later.

Developers

In reviewing sim games, it is important to assess the developers as much as the game. The sim world is littered with over-ambitious, half-dead, forgotten projects, led by developers with no understanding of customer service.

Bus Simulator 18 is clearly not one of those cases.

Developers have been highly responsive since the game's release, and I am confident that updates will come and keep coming to fix some of the remaining issues in the game. More importantly, Bus Sim 18 deserves enormous credit for being one of the few sim games not to release as a buggy, unplayable, ugly mess: for those of you familar with the simulation scene, this is a colossal and historic achievement.

Overall

Highly, highly recommended. The game is thoroughly enjoyable in its current state, and I have experienced no major game-breaking bugs in my 40 hours of gameplay at the time of writing. Graphics are great, gameplay is enjoyable and mod support will continue to expand the game's content. Not only is the game excellent now, but the potential for further development and improvement makes this one of the better simulation games available out there today.

Just remember - if you aren't going to enjoy driving a bus, have a long hard think about buying this. If you are going to enjoy it though, I don't think you can do much better than Bus Simulator 18. ;-)

Early Access Review
Usual warnings about early access, non-implemented features, bugs and performance are particularly important here - read the early access explanation on the store page and decide whether you are willing to give the game a try in its current state.

I would still recommend the game - while it is undeniably rough around the edges right now, it is still the best airport management/tycoon game I have played in a long time. Basic features in the game work (although you'll have to play around with things to work around some of the issues with implementation that exist at the moment, most notably traffic), and there's definitely something here to have fun with even at this early stage. While the in game tutorial does not cover everything, and some things can be frustratingly obscure at first, a little patience and a bit of trial and error goes a long way towards making this game enjoyable in the long run.

More importantly however, the developers seem highly active, engaging with the community and providing patches on a regular basis to address bugs and other issues. As with all EA titles, make sure to report any bugs you come across - if all players did this, I suspect we will have a much better game sooner rather than later.

TLDR - Recommended for the massive potential the game has. Basic features are there, enough to have a bit of fun with the game in its current state. Be ready to accept bugs, quirks and a few frustrating things. Game is clearly at a very early stage - buy with this in mind, and you'll have a much better time enjoying what is already on offer.

Farming? Who would want to play... that?

The title is something many of us have heard. Hell, its probably something that many players thought when they first came across Farming Simulator. This, however, is a fantastic game which I wholeheartedly recommend.

Having not played previous iterations of this series, I cannot really compare how far Farming Simulator 15 has come compared to its predecessors. FS15 however is an excellent, fun, relaxing game, in which you run most aspects of a farm from planting/harvesting fields to selling crops and raising farm animals.

The game mechanics work well, although the driving is perhaps a little clunky. Aside from this, I have not encountered any major problems with the way the game works - everything seems to work as intended, or at least nothing seems to significantly hinder my enjoyment of the game.

The game is further enhanced by a wide range of farming tools and vehicles that you can buy, and by a solid economy model which allows you to pick different ways to make money as a farmer. You are entirely free to do whatever you want at any given time - there are no clear objectives, and no timers unless you count plant withering and the missions you can take on in the game. This is farming sandbox at its purest.

The game takes on a new dimension when playing with friends. Online play works well, and allows players to come together to work on the same far. Many a time I decided to play "a bit" of farming simulator with a friend, before realising that I'd spent the past 5 or 6 hours harvesting corn fields.

Although I have little experience of it, the game seems to have an active modding community, which offers new maps, new trucks and game enhancements to refresh the game should you start finding it boring. Many of the mods seem alright in terms of quality, so do check them out if you buy this game.

TL;DR

A surprisingly fun game in which you might end up spending countless hours after having sneered at the concept. This is a solid, well designed game, which allows you to experience a wide range of aspects of farming life. The game is further enhanced by a wide range of tools/vehicles available and a solid, but perhaps basic, economic model which allows you to make money in whatever way you prefer. With no clear objectives/timers, this is a fine farming sandbox. Buy it.

Far more than re-skin of ETS2

When you buy American Truck Simulator, you are buying two things - an excellent base game, and the promise of significant expansions/DLC/improvements over the next years. The game as it is now is already excellent - the world, although maybe a little small compared to Euro Truck Simulator 2, seems far more detailed and far more alive than some of the parts in the base ETS2 map.

Of course, the game engine is pretty much the same and it will feel very familiar to ETS2 users. There are, however, plenty of things to enjoy in ATS - from challenging deliveries to long open roads, not to mention those great American trucks.

With California and Nevada in the game at the time of writing this review, the world can feel a little small. In my current 33 hours of gameplay I have visited all major towns and have explored over 75% of the map, something which would have taken far, far longer in Euro Truck Simulator 2. On the other hand, with a free Arizona update coming soon and the promise of significant map expansions through DLC, American Truck Simulator is only going to get bigger and better over time.

This is a great single player experience, that can also be enhanced through multiplayer play with the Truckersmp mod which is easy to install and free. If you are tired of driving around California and Nevada on your own, join up with some friends and join a convoy!

TL;DR

A great single player and multiplayer experience that promises to get even better as more content is added to the game by developers. Well worth it for people who enjoyed ETS2 - it is more than re-skin and it is also a great introduction to those who sneer at or have not had the pleasure of enjoying truck simulation.
