The real only negative thing to say about this game is it's shortness, that's honestly it....which is probably the best part of this game. There isn't enough of it.

The sountrack, to begin with, is more than deserving of it's acclaim. Each track is a total, absolute banger, and none of the effect is lost with multiple playthroughs. Even the non-boss themes like the mission combat and title themes are great, I never put on music in the background for this game, it's OST is too good to play over.

Story-wise, I find this game a perfect introduction to the Metal Gear series. It's not as mind-obliterating as the wider franchise but has just enough of that essence to have something to say and goofiness keeps your attention totally while the characters speak. Raiden goes from an atypical protector of the innocent to...something else entirely. Granted he doesn't go on a grand character arc spanning hours upon hours of gameplay, but you notice and feel that change in both gameplay and dialogue.

The gameplay itself is stellar, top-of-the-line quality. As expected from platinum games. The cutting mechanic and overall combat system is well-executed beyond my expectations, the basics of combat are introduced well in the game and you get plenty of lessons in how to execute them, like the parry mechanic.

I love this game near and dear to my heart, and I'm so happy that this title is getting the attention it deserves. I'd love to rant on and on about this game. But I don't want to spend hours of my day ranting. Please, if you have the dosh, buy this game and give it a shot. You will fall in love with it.
