As an avid strategy game player, this is still my favourite RTS to date with the amount of ongoing work that has gone into it. Outside of some pathing issues, the controls, responsiveness and ease of micro during combat are top notch and developers are still making improvements (e.g. drop off resources hotkey and auto farm placement). The damage and armour systems are also very simple to understand. Whenever I go back to other RTS from the same time period things can feel quite clunky and unintuitive in comparison.


Compared to other RTS games, the number of factions or civilisations to pick from is staggering and I really appreciate the constant balancing going on to uplift weaker civs. There are a lot of "strong" ones to choose from and I've had the opportunity to try a lot of different civilisations and strategies over the last few years while more are being added in DLCs as time goes on.

My ONLY complaint is that if you use any alternate language keyboard inputs be sure to not actually hit any Windows key shortcuts to change your keyboard mid game as you can be locked out of inputs and lose games :( The windows key + spacebar shortcut can't actually be disabled so I had to work around this by activating a program to disable windows key inputs when I play.
