After the recent major patch, it looks like they've fixed a bunch of things, and they were pretty major things. Still, I think the AI needs a bit more tweaking so they don't need to have their hands held. A rout system kind of like Wargame would probably help a ton, if a unit has less than 15% health they route unless they're special forces or something.

They made some major patches to the singleplayer being a lot more playable, which I still don't know if backspawning is still a thing, but some of the fixes should have helped a ton.

I do love the multiplayer though, that has always played really well. The scenarios have always been a ton of fun as well (Honestly my favorite parts right now lol). I hope we get a map editor in the future.

Original Review
It's a great formula, but horrifically unbalanced, and the singleplayer is borderline unplayable. Not necessarily for the several hour long missions without a save feature, but for the simple fact that in some missions the AI can backspawn, or where you'll get AI so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ incompetent that you can tell them to ♥♥♥♥ off and get out of an area where they'll die, and they'll just sit there. Staring at the danger. Wondering IF NOT FRIEND WHY IS FRENDSHAPED? BUT RED?

Wait a few months for the devs to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the balancing.

It really is a shame what's become of this game.

So, lemme start by saying, I bought this game back in 2016, and have held off on playing it, since when I first tried it, it was early alpha. Ran like garbage, and was super clunky.

TL;DR
The Bad
  • Runs Very Poorly
  • Dead Multiplayer
  • Janky Controls
  • Janky Gameplay
  • Audio Engine/Audio Design issues
The Good
  • Visually, really nice
  • The sounds, although funky, are genuinely really good. From real source material
Here's the bad part, it's still clunky, runs like garbage, and the controls are still insanely jank. It's a shame too, cause the assets, lights, and environment look really good. Visually it's a nice game, but unfortunately that's all it has going for it. Multiplayer is dead, so good luck trying to play that. I didn't even attempt the missions, since well, it runs so poorly that I gave up on it. The audio design is still really ♥♥♥♥♥. Like I know the dev recorded the sirens from real engines, and vehicles. But the problem is, he recorded them in the city, so you have a ton of echo and reverb. Which would be fine, if you

I wish I could recommend this game, I wish it was completed. But unfortunately I can't, and it's not.

I would also like to point out, performance issues are not due to my setup. I'm running:
  • i9-13950 @5ghz
  • 48GB DDR5 @5600MT/s (Team Group flavor)
  • GPU 1: AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT [Discrete]
  • GPU 2: Intel Raptor Lake-S UHD Graphics @ 1.65 GHz [Integrated]
  • Kernel: Linux 6.13.5-arch1-1

The multiplayer makes it. It's not an outstanding game, but it's pretty damn decent for the $7 it's on sale for.

Sure it could be a lot better, but it's like LSPDFR, with fire and EMS. It's got great bones, but in all honesty, if it had a total overhaul to bring it up to spec with LSPDFR and so on, then I'd be way more interested.

Like I said, it's not bad, and worth a shot.

I've played Fire, EMS, and Police and while I still love the multiplayer, too many people wanna be cops lol. Granted playing as the lawman is very fun, you need that balance of fire and medical, which I wish more players got into. That said, it's not entirely the game's fault of players choosing to be cops, but it could be helped a little bit by having some new, interesting aspects to get people involved with fire and ems more.

Something like disasters, hazmat spills, and things like that could be a huge plus to get people on those sides as well. Since police will always end up being on the server, and respond to contain those situations, Fire and EMS will be the ones to actually resolve the issue.

A buddy of mine said there was Project WIngding DLC, and I didn't even think about it, I just said I needed it. Sure, it's short, and that made me sad. Since it's really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ good.

Gimme a bigger one, for $20-30, I'll buy it the same way I bought this.

The trench+tunnel run was cool, but was a ballbreaker. But, it's got new OST, and it slaps just like the original OST. Also that ending, it's very lore friendly but boy does it feel dirty.

But yeah, please make more, I love you <3

It's not bad, but it doesn't exactly feel like a Stalker game to me. Like, I keep having this nagging feeling in the back of my head, that the game feels a lot like Fallout 4. It's almost as if GSC took the whole 'Eastern European version of Fallout' literally. Even though Stalker came out before FO3, which is where the comparison came from lol.

In any case, if Call of Pripyat was their version of New Vegas, then this is perfectly equal to Fallout 4.

It's not a bad game, it just doesn't feel right in my opinion. The engine doesn't help, although Xray was a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it had a sorta jank that I loved. But I just fu⁧cking hate unreal engine.

I thought this would be cool, and fun. But it's really not. The controls are super janky, and I honestly have no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clue what's going on during a mission. Maybe I'll pick it up again in the future, but for now it's really gotta cook.

Pretty damn good. The VA work is a little jank, so run with subtitles. Map designs are sometimes a little unintuitive, but someone has a walkthrough guide for parts you might get stuck on. It was definitely a very fun, and unique experience and would highly recommend it to anyone who's interested. I thoroughly enjoyed playing SDE!

I haven't played this ♥♥♥♥ since like 2007. It would be nice to fire up a round sometime, it was really damn good at the time.

Same with Nuclear Dawn, I never really got to play that one unfortunately :c

The playtest demo is so good, for a hot minute I thought it was the full game, and forgot I didn't buy it yet. I was a little stumped when I couldn't find multiplayer games, and was worried it was a dead game.

Then I actually bought the game. It's a damn fun game. It's like War Thunder realistic mode, with a lil bit of Heliborne, and Project Wingman tossed in for some flavor.

Then there's those moments when someone decides to drop the sun(s), and you're staring out the side of your visor like this[i.redd.it]
