I played through the original BioShock years ago and really loved the world and the gameplay. I recently got around to starting BioShock 2 Remastered and I am enjoying it at least as much as the first. Admittedly I am still relatively early in the campaign (in the third area, Pauper's Drop IIRC) but I'm looking forward to playing through it to the end. For those who may not know, BioShock is a FPS style game with RPG elements (weapon upgrades, various "magic" powers with their own upgrades, money to buy things, etc.) and is set in an underwater city called Rapture. I won't say anymore about the world so I don't spoil anything for anyone, but it's got a very retro-futuristic vibe, by which I mean it looks and feels like what people in the 40's and 50's imagined the future would look like, sort of steam punk or diesel punk. The game has some tense moments with somewhat creepy enemies and some jump scares and such, but not too bad, not as much as Dead Space or another actual horror game. There's some blood and such but again, not like a proper horror game. All in all, I highly recommend the series in general and, so far, this game in particular.

This game may be short (I beat it in 6-8 hrs) but it's fun and good value for the money! It plays like an old-school JRPG (think early Final Fantasy games) but is definitely tongue-in-cheek with plenty of references to other games and generally poking fun of the genre itself. If you are looking for a short and fun trip down (and partially making fun of) memory lane then you won't regret picking this up. I got it in a combo pack with Cthulhu Saves the World (which was made after) and I'm quite looking forward to seeing how they've upped their game ;-)
