As you all can see I've put quite a decent amount of time into this game. A lot of it was probably spent AFK looking at reddit or doing something else but I'll get into that later.
If you're here looking to purchase the game at this point it's probably because of the new "Thargoid cutscene" Frontier has finally released after years of waiting. Let me be the first to say Don't.
Frontier has a habit of doing things like this that will garner media attention instead of actually fixing the long list of problems the game has. In it's current state Elite Dangerous has no real gameplay loop. Do Not Purchase The Game.

Ask anyone, the new player experience is terrible. There's a short tutorial but after that you're on your own. Now many people would say "so what I like it like that" well so do I but let me get to the point, currently the mission system is utterly broken. So you're on your own and can't really do missions.
Most missions aren't spawning at stations for whatever reason so as a new player there's really no good way to earn credits. Vetran players would say "go to a res site and do bounties" Well you better get used to that because it's basically all the game has to offer.
If you enjoy the combat enough to do it endlessly for no real reason for over 1000 hours then this game is for you.

ED's current gameplay basically consists of one thing, grinding credits to buy a new ship then using that new ship to grind more credits to buy the next. Once you get to the final ship you want credits become obsolete and the game runs out of things to do. You'll sit in stations on your web browser doing nothing for hours on end after that.

For those of you wanting to play because it says its an MMO, it isn't
There's no clan/guild/corp system in the game what so ever. Seriously. It doesn't exist.
You can't group up with friends to do missions, there is no way to share missions at all.
You can "wing" with other players but it's a p2p system and you will probably get disconencted.
That's right, I said its peer to peer on an "mmo" terrible design.

If all of that still doesn't turn you away, don't fret there's more!
If you're someone who likes to haul stuff to make money AKA Space truck let me just tell you...
They managed to break that too.
All the missions that existed before that gave decent payouts for long range hauling have been nerfed to the point of being obsolete (as well as ALL OTHER MISSIONS) as it stands the only way that I'm aware of the make a decent amount of money in-game is basic non-mission trading and non-mission combat sites (The thing I said earlier where you spend countless hours blowing up the same NPC's over and over).

Frontier as a whole have come off to me to simply be incompetent. They've build a solid foundation and a beautiful galaxy then forgot to build the house on top of it. You can fly around this massive amazing galaxy but you can't actually DO ANYTHING. Once the new car smell wears off you realize it's all smoke and mirrors. Their vision as a whole is deeply flawed, there's no clean/guild/corp system because they simply refuse to add one. The game is a massive grind because they want it to be. The galaxy is empty because they feel it makes you feel "small" and they think that's what people want.
This is why I've lost faith after so many hours, they simply have a flawed vision. They have no intention of fixing the long list of problems with the game because they think these problems are features. They are great programmers but poor game designers. They programmed this beautiful galaxy then realized they have no idea how to create a fun, lasting gameplay loop.

Despite thousands of players telling them their vision is flawed they refuse to change and have stated there will not be any guilds or fixing of their party system or basically any changes made to the mission system.

They have plans to add the ability for other players to fly in their friends ships but this will still rely on p2p and be terribly unreliable.

My suggestion is to just stay away from this game, maybe then when their sales start to drop Fronteir will actually start to change the game for the better and ED will become the game it always could have been instead the shadow of a game it is now.
