Dropsy is a game about kindness & selflessness.

Dropsy is a pixelated point and click adventure game that is melancholic, yet it's not about sadness. You progress by helping others and seeing your positive actions change the world around you. That's what makes Dropsy so special to me. Try it yourself!

I did a coin flip to decide if I should give the game a positive Or a negative review. How fitting is that for Fear & Hunger?

Some context first: I knew about Fear & Hunger for a long time, and when I saw it labelled as “Adults Only” on Steam, I Clicked Off. I'm put off by games with gratuitous and tasteless sexual/gore content. However, my perception changed when I watched a video by someone I trust their opinion praising the game. Fear & Hunger does have those elements, but I can assure you they are handled with maturity and relevance to the game's story & Mechanics. If you can't consume sexual/gore content, then this game is certainly not for you. You have the option to install community mods that remove those aspects. To me, I believe these themes are an integral part of the game's identity, but if one want to take those themes away, they are free to do so.

This Part is for the negative reviews that deemed the game as negative due to its dark sexual/gore themes.

This game is marked as “Adults Only” and it's valid for anyone to not like the game for its explicit content but you have played it knowing that it's an “Adults Only” game. Respectfully, deeming the game as negative because of its grim sexual/gore content is shortsighted. The Steam page is transparent about the nature of Fear & Hunger. if the game did not have those aspects, then the game will be labelled anything but "Adults Only". You played the game willingly, knowing well it's an "Adult Only" game. You have only yourself to blame.

Now, for the review of the game!

Fear & Hunger is a captivating Survival Horror Dungeon Crawler, immersing players in an atmosphere unlike any other. The unique art and haunting ambient music contribute to its eerie atmosphere. Be warned, though; the game is cruel and have a sharp learning curve. However, once you grasp its mechanics, the gameplay becomes more straightforward.

Fear & Hunger stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of its sole developer, evident in the game's meticulous attention to detail, rich lore, and a narrative that unfolds in a fascinating manner. The exploration of profound psychological themes and the intriguing storyline are exceptionally captivating. Even if the core gameplay might not be typically your preference, the psychological themes alone are enough to hook you in.

However, the game is infested with bugs. In my 11 playthroughs, I encountered frustrating bugs that disrupted the overall experience, some of them even resulting in the end of my run. The frequent game bugs left me feeling more dreadful than immersed in the game.

It's not that the game lacks potential; But these bugs and glitches drag the experience down. In fact, I broke my rule of not looking online for help during my first playthrough, only to realize that the issues were due to bugs, not my actions. In a game where every second counts, these small bugs can ruin your entire run. Furthermore, The game hasn't received an update in nearly two and a half years.

The game's community is incredibly talented and constantly are working to improve Fear & Hunger shortcomings. While I appreciate their efforts, it shouldn't be solely their responsibility to fix such fundamental flaws. An official update from the developer would be a more proper approach to fix these issues and fully unlock the game's potential.

Despite the developer's focus on other projects, there remains hope that they might return to Fear & Hunger, especially since they mentioned adding achievements. A well crafted game like this deserves better.

For those uncertain about Fear & Hunger, I hope this review gives you a clearer understanding of its merits and shortcomings. My recommendation is:

If you can overlook the bugs and appreciate the captivating psychological experience, then this dark world awaits your exploration. However, if you prefer a smoother gameplay experience, it might be wise to await potential patches or updates before embarking on this harrowing journey. Consider this fair warning, but remember, there's a hidden gem worth exploring.

World Of Horror is a very charming game with beautiful art and attention to details. However, it's a game that gets old really fast. After a while of playing the game you'll know where to click and it becomes a matter of luck than strategy. Missions will feel like chores than mysteries. I wanted to recommend the game based on at least the art, but after a while even the art becomes less charming.

By The Time the credits rolled, my eye shed a tear. Never have I felt like this playing a game since I played Demon's Souls back in 2010.

Signalis far exceeded my expectations in every imaginable way. It is not just one of the best survival horror games ever made. It is one of the best games ever made, Period.

Context first: It's been less than a day since I beat Signalis. I may or may not add further to this review in the future but I want to give my initial thoughts fresh out of my mind. I never heard about the game before it was launched, did not see the trailer, just saw the screenshots. Bought it because I thought it's something I would like. Haven't seen anything about it online yet as I'm writing this review.

Too many cooks spoil the broth.
Buy this game if only you are interested in visuals and it's on sales because this game is beautiful, but that is the best I can say about it. The game works great when it's a walking simulator, but the puzzle parts of the game ruin it for me. The story doesn't make much sense and the way you unfold the story is convoluted and without a guide I don't think I could have done it and got all the endings. You are better off watching a YouTube playthrough of the game because there's no fun in solving tedious easy puzzle to advance the game.

Edit 1/1/2023 in the comments

I would have clicked the disappointed button if one existed. The only reason I'm recommending Omori is because its positive features outweigh its flaws. Let me be clear: when this game is good, it is fantastic; however, when it is bad, it is dreadfully boring and repetitive and to find the good is like to look for the needle in the hay.

Some context first, I’ve waited for the game since it was first announced. I followed all its news throughout the years, I bought the game shortly after it was released but didn’t play it because I wanted to give it its dedicated time and when I finally played it took me around 60 hours my first playthrough, played the game completely blind without any spoilers. After the first playthrough I search online on how to 100% the game and it took me 5 extra playthroughs to see everything there is to see.

The Good

The Narrative:
The Narrative is my favorite out of any game I ever played. I did not see that twist coming. From the way it was built to the way it was unfolded it was perfect and I wish I could forget it so I can experience it again.

The Art:
The fact they made the game with 3 different artstyles amazes me. The game was made with Pixel art, Claymation and Hand drawn style. Every design in the game is beautiful and got its own spirit from side character dialog box to enemies in battles and their reactions. all the small details in the game are beautiful just to look at. That being said, I found the Pixel art to be the one lacking out of the 3 but that’s because 90% of the game is Pixelated so that make the hand drawn and Claymation segments more impressive but the Pixel art is lacking in comparison because of the layout of the maps rather than it being just “not as good”

The Music:
I’m split on Music because on one hand you have the dark ambient music that are superb and on the other hand you have the dull JRPG like music but more on that later. I wanted to say that the dark ambient sounds are a mixture of Silent Hill 2 and Yume Nikki Music which is true to some extent but I would also be wrong because the more I listen to the Dark Ambient Parts the more amazed I am by the sounds. The music is not like music from any game I ever played. Omori dark ambient is the new stander for dark ambient music in games in my opinion. The Emotional music in this game is amazing too and hit in all the right places. The OST have my favorite track from any game I ever played ‘By Your Side’. I feel like this is when the game music shine, when it’s simple and minimalistic. Wish that was the case for all the music in the game.

The Design:
Although I don’t like the side quest in the dream world; the design for the real world is a lot of fun and it’s fun and worthy to play and 100% the side quests in the real world. The Dark Space segments are my favorite, the atmosphere and the music and the level design are perfect. I never thought something like the dark space can be created in a game but I am sure it cannot be duplicated again. There are 2 special areas in the game as well which are ‘Orange Oasis’ which is an optional area and ‘Snowglobe Mountain’ which is a level that you have to take a different ending path to enter. Although they are not anything amazing it is still nice to have optional areas. Playing and analyzing the level design in the dream world make me question if all levels are made by the same team because they are all different from one another, this might seem like a compliment but it’s a double edge sword because the dream world levels were inconsistent unlike The Dark space and The Real World.

The Bad

The Gameplay:
The battle system seems good on paper but it was bland in practice, after you level up a bit you will stop strategizing and Hit as hard as you can to win as fast as you can. I found the special attack to be nothing more than an eye candy because every time after you use it the first time it became nothing more than an eye candy attack that take so much and affect so little you better off saving your meter points on other party members than use the special attack. As for the points meter itself, I rarely filled it but always used it in the first attack when I want to end the battles as fast as possible or against boss battles which is where the battle system really shines. There is also an emotion mechanic that is basically +2, -1 that I stopped paying attention too because it barely changes the battles except for few major boss fights. The Battle system itself is not the problem it’s the fact that weak enemies have a Deathwish and will be placed in an area where you barely can escape them or you will do ridiculous maneuvers just to avoid fighting them and while playing the game I couldn’t stop thinking of Earthbound a game that came 26 years before Omori and already solved that problem, when you are at a high level in Earthbound enemies will start running away from you so you don’t waste your time and if you really want to fight them you can go to them and fight but In Omori 1 hit kill enemies will run at you full speed and waste your time and barely give you anything. Entering and Exiting and area will respawn the enemies at that area which is just tedious, even if you get caught by enemies you can escape but that will take time and the enemies won’t disappear, they will be just left there invisible for few seconds so you can escape. By my second run I tried to escape and ignore all the enemies which made the boss fights hard and made the game both difficult and boring at the same time.

The Plot:
I found the gameplay to be extremely boring and repetitive even since my first playthrough I remember by the time I reach sweetheart castle I was already board playing the dream parts and wishing it will end soon. By the time I reach the Deep Well and discovered it was about sweetheart again I was seriously considering stop playing and play it when I feel better because the Plot of was horrible it’s like a punishment you should receive before you get to the good parts. The whole dream segments on paper are about finding your friend and collecting keys but in reality, it’s about Sweetheart and the characters following her and seeing what she is doing next and it is not fun. Wasn’t fun first time and wasn’t fun later on. Even in the real world I found the plot to be basic and anime like plot. The plot is so weak in a game that have such a great narrative which is a shame.

The Music, again….
The Music is a large part of the game so I decided to not ignore the bad and at least point the negative out. As I said in the Good the Music is great but the more JRPG-ish music is generic and basic, uninspired and boring to listen too. The Cheesy music sometimes feel out of place and the more Final Fantasy like music are annoying and listening to them is tiresome.

Conclusion

Omori sits in a strange place in the list of the best games I ever played. On one side it was the best that ever did it and on the other side it was an example of what not to do. I don’t know how to feel about Omori, I love this game but I truly believe it could be so much better but its short comings ruined it for me. I am not sure why because they did well creatively, they had the budget and time so was this the product that the development team were satisfy with? I don’t believe so but it doesn’t matter because what we got is finalized and it was a mixture of Good and Bad but the Good outweigh the bad which is better than the other way around. I am happy that Omori exist and after seeing everything to see and listening to everything that could be heard will I return to the game in the future? Not likely but that is not a no either.
