Easily Supermassive's best game since Until Dawn. The story started out very explosively with an incredible prologue, and went on to play with the ideas of time travel and alternate dimensions quite well, using them creatively but not going so overboard with them that the narrative becomes a convoluted mess.

The characters are also the most engaging SG has given us since 2015. Linda Castle especially may be my favorite character across all Supermassive games, and I'm very happy to be able to say this after seven different interactive story games. I hope to see some of these folks in Dead By Daylight someday, something I was skeptical of before playing the game but can now safely say would be a treat.

Some things could obviously be better, such as Augustine Lieber's involvement and motive, because it's pretty much completely spelled out in the literal first minutes of the game. Or the fact that unlike most games before itself, you can't save everyone in this one, and at least two characters are fated to die in this one; which isn't a problem in itself but it is somewhat misleading. But even then, this is an extremely solid experience with some of the most numerous branching paths I've seen.

And lastly, no, this game doesn't hinge itself on DBD to exist like some people desperately claim. Many people have played this game with little to no knowledge of DBD and their enjoyment wasn't diminished whatsoever. 99% of the references some players claim ruin the game are completely harmless, like having to repair a generator or find a few Killer doll figures. If these references annoy you even though they are just tiny callbacks to a game that you presumably bought and play extensively, then maybe it's time to grow up a little.
