Sony really decided to commit sepuku.

I gave this game a good chance to show itself.

Started it with a friend before the 6 months wipe to get to know it. Got very familiar with the combat system, AI, trading and we were content.

Then wipe happened and SHTF. Combat was overhauled, making the basic guns in the game useless, huge dispersion of cannons, while the AI basically snipes you and kites you in the most effective way, thus making it for new players extremely hard to play. The AI doesn't make it anywhere near fun to play, while it may be more "realistic" this way. It all stems down to how hardcore you want this game to be or more like - do you want a full-blown simulator or you want an MMO game.

The only goal in this game is to acquire and fight with the best ship in the game - the Santisima, because there is no game loop for weaker ships. This means that to have any meaningful gameplay, you need to endlessly grind and almost certainly join a clan, because critical resources are locked behind clan gameplay.

I've played Eve Online before and I can say that it has many flaws, however farming NPC's, trading and playing solo is certainly possible there and you are not encouraged to grind to a titan to have fun. No. Even with basic ships a player in EVE can have plenty of fun and that's how most players PVP.

In Naval Action this is different - you either PVP with a first rate or you PVP with DLC ships, because you can redeem your DLC ship every 24 hours (basically a "free" ship).

Also the pirate faction is totally useless as a concept, because it acts as an organized country that even has taxes. In previous years the pirates could attack each other and basically be lone wolves - also helping players from other factions against other pirates.

PVP is fun and I'd recommend to all people looking for a ship game to buy a DLC ship and go and fight players. I don't recommend farming NPC's, because it's one of the most boring tasks, AI gets changed constantly so you have to learn it as a new concept every update and farming medals to upgrade your shipyard or investing in facilities is endless. If you want to shoot other people with cannons, absolutely buy the game, but for me having to buy a DLC ship makes your life easier.

If you don't work, have plenty of free time to waste 12 hours a day grinding - don't buy a DLC ship, if you do actually have a normal life - buying it is a must.

11/10 would get tortured again
