If you buy Pathfinder: Kingmaker, be prepared to get frustrated with all the stupid oversights and inconvenient mechanics. Don't even get me started on the atrocious writing. In one encounter, for example, you find 2 companion characters trapped by these slaver mages. You save them, and they immediately want to jump your bones, seemingly unaffected by a lifetime of forced labor, torture, and psychological abuse. Really immersive writing and worldbuilding, right? I'm really passionate about CRPGs and I would hate for someone to spend a couple of hours with this game (the time necessary to get a feel for the game) and not be able to refund it. I kept looking for the fun but it just isn't here. Just play Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire with the new turn-based mode. You will get an amazing story with great gameplay mechanics and many branching paths to choose from.

I played this game once before without turn-based mode. Not sure how.

The combat is so engaging and interesting; you really have play strategically on higher difficulties. With turn-based mode, I can actually see what's happening. Real-time with pause (RTWP) just confused me.

Every other aspect of this game is highlighted by the overhauled combat system. The story and writing are amazing, but the combat dragged it down. It was hard to get really immersed in the story when the RTWP combat was such a chore. Now, I am having fun the whole time I am playing. And by the way, this was a FREE update that Obsidian came out with, just as an act of good will.

For anyone who enjoys games that emphasize player choice, you really shouldn't miss out on this.

Not bad. Not amazing. Not sure how much this game will cost when it comes out, but more than 30 bucks is really pushing it. The fighting is slow, but this isn't an action movie. If the attacks were any faster, people wouldn't be able to react. The best part about this game is the strategic fighting. It really is all skill (unless you get swarmed). The fighting is all about deception, as any strategic fighting is.

7.5/10
A better than average strategic fighting game.
(better than For Honor, lol)
