Hell is a mess. There's a story but it's utterly nonsensical. A warring ethereal hierarchy with a demon queen called the Red Goddess and others like Baphomet but it really just boils down to them screwing and killing everyone. How is it that you can die in the afterlife anyway? Hell certainly looks pretty. It's Babylonian architecture by way of Giger. The problem is that this is also supposed to be a game and the creators can't decide what game that is. Stealth? Puzzle? Platformer? Survival Horror? There's no core loop. It has so many mechanics and none of them work in tandem to make a particular experience. The skills indicate that this was supposed to be like Messiah where you possess different bodies, but like most everything in the game, it doesn't make much use of it. At first you think it might be a Hell walking simulator because there's a linear path but then they throw you in an open world with collectables and you get completely lost. The broken save system certainly doesn't help, in fact, it makes it borderline unplayable. And considering all there really is to do in Hell is screw and kill it would have maybe worked better as a hentai game, but then you wouldn't be seeing it on Steam now would you? The creators can't decide what this is so it doesn't amount to much. In terms of shock value it's such a basic depiction of Hell that it never has much impact. Sexual assault and infanticide are kind of currency in Hell so there's no real context to ground evil acts in a place that's normalized it. At the same time though they don't go the satire route and show that Hell is basically a utopia for evil people. For a game about the afterlife it surprisingly doesn't have much of a point. Good for degenerates and teenagers but overall pretty forgettable.
