Alright 2020 status of Heroes and Generals.

I am sad to say that nothing has changed. As Reto shrinks because they cant afford to keep people employed because no one wants to play their game we are stuck in the state where the game isn't good, and nothing is going to be done about it "Because there is no time" If Reto were intelligent they would look at steam charts and notice that their average playerbase has been cut in HALF, and they would investigate. That doesn't seem to be happening.

The biggest problem with this game is the devs do not play the game. No matter how much they say they play the game, you will not see a dev in battle unless you are extra extra lucky, and they will always claim they play the game (the prototype server.) As a result, they are completely blind to the serious problems in this game and I fear nothing is going to happen. IMO Reto needs a dedicated game player, where all they do is play the game and then complain about the problems. The live game that is, no prototype server garbage. Sadly, they cannot afford this.

That being said, lets get into the problems currently present in the game.

Number One, Spawn points

If you play the game you will notice there is about a 95% chance in EVERY single battle you will lose a point then all the sudden you are "Entering enemy deploy zone" This means the enemies are invisible, and you are dead. Reto reworked the maps that didn't need to be reworked and they put the spawns for points, nowhere near the points. As a result, as you are approaching the points, you are guaranteed to walk through or near an enemy deploy zone making attacking any given point just about impossible. And for the points where this isn't the case, chances are, the spawn is miles away and across a barren field forcing the defending party to run though a field to the point and most likely get gunned down. Before the rework you would spawn INSIDE points. For example, E3 on town; if you spawned at E3 you and your vehicle would spawn inside the cap zone. And if the point was being contested you would just spawn at E2. Simple as that. Safe spawns, the attacking side doesn't have to worry about Enemy Deploy zones, and the defending side doesn't have to spawn in a field. The only exception to this was O points. You would spawn in the O point but under contest you could spawn at an auxiliary spot. This system worked just fine, and they desperately need to fix it.

Number two, Field Maintenance Delay

Field Maintenance Delay is a "feature" Reto added to try to balance the game. This means that depending on your loadout you will have different spawn delays depending on your "performance" now its not really depending on performance its more of a time thing. The quicker you die the longer you wait. Now if you rephrase that whats really happening is, you are losing, and dying a lot trying to regain control, so as a result Reto is making you wait longer, nerfing you, so that way you don't become overpowered..... while you're dying over and over again and losing critical points. While that is a big problem there is a deeper problem. Reto has a standard spawn delay for different classes and different vehicles, and the only class they have successfully done this with is Recon, every other class however is a complete disaster. German tanks are notorious for being good (not reliable, but thats not a problem in this game) so as you'd expect just about every German tank has a big spawn delay. This means that pretty much no matter what tank you're using whether it be light, medium, destroyer, or heavy, you are going to wait as little as 1 minute, up to 3 minutes to spawn in once you die. This is absolutely insane and it is the main reason nobody plays German tanks. Because you cant. Nonetheless Field Maintenance Delay was the worst idea ever and if it ever gets removed it will be in about 2 decades just like the rest of the bad decisions they made and decided to remove.

Problem Number 3, Reto does not listen

And they never have. That's how we got here to begin with. Like I said no matter how much they say they play its evident they don't. And they cant, I understand that, they need to use their small team to develop the game not play it, but the part where they fail is they don't listen to the people that do play. If you check the forums, specifically the action game feedback and suggestions section and sort by start date you will notice that there are plenty of people suggesting things and giving feedback, and this has been like this for years. Yet Reto never acknowledges these things, nor do they implement them. I doubt they will read this review, if they truly listened to the community to try to make the game better they would start rolling back updates, and repairing the damage they have done. The current state of town is near unplayable, if the defenders have tanks they win because all they need to do is camp the bridges from 500m away and they are good. Thing is, that has been a problem since 2012, nothings happened. People want new assault maps, not reworked assault maps, but new assault maps and instead they add a new gamemode and new skirmish maps, and rework the maps that were already fine (factory, and mountain town), and they don't rework the maps/parts of maps that need it. Reto absolutely destroyed factory, nobody liked the update, they knew that, but they did it anyway. Essentially, they are trying to polish garbage and instead it just makes the garbage worse. They have a solid playerbase full of players like me who will stick with the game but I fear that the game may not be for much longer if they don't start listening.

Now it may seem harsh to trash on Reto so much but after 8 years of sitting around and letting their game go to trash because they don't listen to the community I believe they deserve it.

At the end of the day I actually do recommend this game to people, but I maintain the negative review because its well deserved. The game is still fun, although its not where it should be and its full of problems, you can still get some enjoyment out of it. The grind for equipment isn't bad, and it never has been. Everyone who reviews the game and says its P2W is just trash, the game is fine and i've never felt that I needed gold. However I still buy gold to support Reto. No other game company could make this game happen, the way Reto did, before they threw it away. If Reto could open their eyes, and if they had a little bit more funding this game would reach its full potential but in its current declining state that may just not happen. Come hop on the game, its fun, you'll enjoy it, just don't expect any changes soon, maybe some new pistols but that is it.
