I love Pathfinder 2E and so I love this game. The dev is very approachable and open to feedback; has fixed multiple issues I raised and is constantly improving the game out of a passion. Can not recommend this enough for people who would like to try PF2E or just want to play a slowly growing game with quite a lot of tactical depth.

I watched ChristopherOdd play this game and bought it halfway through his first video. No regrets.

Quick story summary:
There's something weird happening in the city of Episilon, monsters are wandering around and machines are running amok. Find out what happened and put a stop to the madness. Let's face it: you're not playing this game for the story.

Gameplay summary:
Choose 1 out of 8 anthropomorphic characters that each has their own strength and play style, then team up with 2 more to form a team of up to 3 characters. Choose from events that gain you buffs, items or currency, or fight against creatures, gaining items, xp and currency. Currency can be spent in shops or during events.
In the turn-based combat there's a line of 9(?) squares along which all combatants move, one by one in initiative order. You can flank, backstab (using special skills), push, pull, and co-op attack as positioning is very important to maximize damage output and minimize damage taken. Enemies will telegraph their moves and you will see how much an attack will deal; both yours and your enemies. Movement points (MP) are specific to a character, while Action points (AP) are shared between the team, which creates an interesting dynamic.
During the 4 chapters of each run there will also be "factors" happening that will complicate gameplay, like random (but telegraphed) meteor strikes, hot potato bombs, sandstorms, tougher or stronger enemies etc etc. These will stack up and can potentially create a deadly mix if you're not careful in selecting your battles.
The mechanics work really well together to create a fun gameplay loop until you beat the final boss or your team gets defeated.

The first few runs are kind of hard while you figure out how everything works and make decisions around losing the least amount of health and how to dish out the most damage. Then, after you've learned the game a bit and unlocked some characters and their kit, the game becomes noticably easier. You can later unlock a "difficult" mode via an in-game event, although after you unlock most things, it is not significantly harder. I'd say around 10-20%. The hard mode has recently been made a bit harder via a patch (from the 30th of April), but at the same time some underpowered skills got buffed so it kind of balances that out. The patch also made unlocking stuff less tedious, which I appreciate.

What I played:
At the time of writing I have 90% total career progress, which includes:
  • Unlocked every character fully (100%) which includes beating hardmode with them as team leader
  • Unlocked 86% of items
  • Seen all chapter factors except 1 (might be a secret or something?)
  • All the above happened over the course of around 65 hours, which translate to around 30 runs
  • Did a successful solo run with Glitch, albeit at normal difficulty
  • Unlocked 82/85 achievements (missing: Turbulence Zone, Expert Investor and Unshackled)

Pros:
  • It's fun figuring out how everything interacts
  • Planning your turn is my kind of brain stimulation
  • Finding and combining the right items for some combos can be quite satisfying
  • I like the art-style
  • It's kind of hard to put down in a "just one more fight" way, but if you do, you can put it down at pretty much any point and resume your run from there - even in the middle of combat (although it will start at the current character's start of turn, which can be "abused" to start the turn over if you made a mistake)

Cons:
  • Not much build variety for each of the characters; there's usually a more or less "ideal" way to play most characters, with some exceptions.
  • There are some minor QoL features missing, like not being able to check your inventory during events or loot screens. You also won't know how much indirect damage will be dealt, so sometimes it's hard to gauge if you can actually kill an enemy even though the regular damage numbers are there. I'd also like to see a combat / damage log.
  • The music, while not bad, gets repetitive.
  • Piggy Bank has quite a slow progression to fully unlock, at least compared to everything else
  • Once you know how to play the game, it becomes quite hard to actually lose unless you do something stupid. I think there needs to be a mode that's even more difficult.

Would I recommend this game?
Yes, I would, especially if it's on sale. I'm a big fan of these kind of rogue-lites, and It's a neat little game that, while kind of frontloading it's depth, gave me many hours of enjoyment for quite a decent price. It does get a bit repetitive once you've played it a while but I'm still having fun after all these hours with trying out new builds or doing (self-imposed) challenge runs.

Simply put: This is one of the best strategy games out there.

If you don't believe me, ask Beaglerush.
