Manor Lords is a game that captures the essence of being in Medieval times. It bridges the gap between being a city builder and fighting in small scale total war style battles. Although this game is primarily a city builder it still has some battle mechanics.

The city building is great I love the depth it gives. I also like that you can have multiple villages in the map so you can barter between each other. Unlike Cities skylines you cannot infinitely expand you need to balance resources like trees and farmland. By expanding to other regions, you can get more access to different natural resources. Eventually gameplay does become a bit stale it needs more late game content, but its good enough for Early Access.

The combat although small scale is good. I enjoy the battles a lot more than for example in total war since the people that are fighting your battles are your villagers and their lives are important, and you do not want to lose men. Losing men will also impact the village of course since a dead villager is not a working villager. The pathfinding is sometimes a bit clunky it can get some improvements but its good enough for Early access.
