I was a fan of TowerFall Ascension (having it be my favorite indie game), so I was excited for this game to come out. After playing through it, I can say this is one of the best platformers of the past few years and I recommend it above almost everything else.

Pros:
- The level design is top notch. Each screen feels like something new, yet also builds on past ideas.
- Even though the game is fairly difficult, it is liberal with checkpoints, follows a proper difficulty curve, and doesn't feel artificial.
- The game is full of collectible strawberries. Usually, I would ignore them but they make up much of the meat of the game. The platforming challenges to get them are tough, but they feel rewarding to achieve. There were a few times where they were so difficult they stood out, but the game design was strong enough that it made me want to collect them.
- There are a few new platforming ideas with each new area that are properly reinforced and used to their full potential while also not totally outstaying their welcome.
- The soundtrack is pretty (almost as good as TowerFall's).
- Each of the levels is aesthetically varied.
- With the strawberries and more difficult versions of each level as well as an "arcade version" of the game and a secret eighth level, there is a substantial amount of content. Edit: This game actually as so much content that you'd still be at the surface of it if you just beat the game once.
- For what it is, the story is surprisingly good and doesn't intrude on the gameplay.

Cons:
- The controls take a while to get used to at first, so there can be frustrating deaths resulting from it.
- It's probably more of my fault for being stupid, but there was one time I got stuck for unnecessary reasons. This happened I didn't realize how a game mechanic worked. This is probably more of a personal experience than an actual problem with the game, but it might be worth mentioning.
- To get the B side for the 8th level, it's absolutely required that you have all the hearts before it, including the extremely well hidden secret ones. It is pretty fun to try to follow a guide and see what you missed, but it probably shouldn't be required.
- It certainly felt good to beat, but was the final screen of the 7th C side really necessary?
- For some reason the game crashes a lot on me.

I do recommend this game after playing through it once on the hard difficulty, but I'm on the edge about it. It's definitely worth its $20 asking price and deserved more attention, but there are definitely better shooter campaigns out there.

Pros:
- The energy mechanic is definitely the coolest thing the game has going for it. You can use it to aim in slow motion, use an energy laser, and quickly slide with rocket boosters. However, it depletes quickly (and automatically depletes when you take enough damage), so you have to use it strategically.
- The scoring system encourages you to not play the game like a boring cover shooter.
- The campaign has a substantial length if you play it on the highest difficulty. Some say the game is 5-7 hours long, but it took 8 1/2 this way while being a decent challenge.
- The game has constant action and does not waste too much time (except for on a few occasions).
- There is a decent weapon variety and upgrade system to go along with it.
- The graphics and framerate are great on PC. Enemies are well animated. Everything feels noticeably nice and fluid.

Cons:
- Even though the graphics are great on PC, all the game's areas feel like they blend together to be the same.
- All but one of the game's bosses are recycled throughout its duration. They're all well designed, so it's not offensively bad, but something could have been improved.
- The story is nothing special, even if it is decently fun to watch unfold. San Francisco gets destroyed by a space superweapon, generic villains with Metal Gear motivations and a generic FPS protagonist, cool space colony, bionicles to shoot at, and no emotional investment or actual pacing to speak of
- Though the game tries to force you out of cover, you always play around cover because energy is limited
- The game's levels are mostly empty combat arenas without much to make them stand out from one another. Nothing particularly stands out in the level design.
- Even though there is a good enemy variety, most of the game's enemies are the same red robot grunts.
- The fun of the slow motion and sliding mechanics wears off pretty quickly.
- Nitpick: I hardly ever used the melee mechanic because overheating is definitely not worth it.

Even though I mentioned more bad things about the game, the pros are more important and definitely outweigh the cons. The game was definitely good enough from moment to moment to make me want to keep playing it all the way through its length.

After playing it on hard difficulty, I can safely say Metal Gear Rising was a pretty enjoyable game all the way through that I would definitely recommend.

Pros:
- Like other Metal Gear games, the story is fun but also cheesy and laughable in a good way. It has such memorable quotes as "Memes. The DNA of the soul," and "Nanomachines, son."
- Considering that I usually don't enjoy beat-em-ups, the combat is pretty fun. You don't really have to review a bunch of combos, and instead you just get a sense of what feels right at different times.
- There's a large boss variety, and every one of them was fun.
- The game is paced well between cutscenes and gameplay.
- The soundtrack is surprisingly good.
- Even though there are useful upgrades and health packs to manage, they never felt like they took away from the game's challenge.

Cons:
- The mechanics are really poorly explained. It took me to around halfway through the game to figure out exactly how the blade mode mechanic worked. Luckily, it didn't matter that much because the non-boss combat is pretty easy.
- Equipping the white armor (which was originally a Best Buy preorder bonus) gives you 10 full health packs. If I knew about it before the final boss, I would have definitely abused it.
- The game was not quite good enough that I felt compelled to play more of it after I finished.

Bioshock Infinite is well worth its price. I played this game without having played the earlier Bioshock or Bioshock 2, so I am reviewing it as a standalone game after my playthrough on hard mode.

Pros:
- The story is top-notch, and even though I did not fully understand it (which is partially the point), I was very engaged with it. The twist at the end is crazy.
- At first I thought the death system (everytime you die you lose some money, you get some ammo, and enemies get health back) to be a stupid idea that took away the challenge, but I actually felt much more determined not to die because of this penalty, and it also made me think more about money management. It only made me want to slam my head into a brick wall once (in the first Lady Comstock battle before I understood how to much more easily fight her).
- Resource management is well approached. I often felt like I had to vary up weapons to conserve ammo.
- Combat feels challenging, engaging, and varied. Weapons each feel unique, and each of the vigors have fun, varying effects. Elizabeth's tear abilities help to make the combat even more satisfying, as she tosses you exactly the resources you needed mid-battle.
- You can really sense yourself becoming substantially better at the game as you continue playing.
- Columbia is colorful and aesthetically varied while the art style still manages to follow a certain motif.
- Robot George Washington can fight Robot Abe Lincoln.

Cons:
- Before the final third of the game, gunplay often requires you to hide behind walls and wait a while to regain shield. Then, you get a vigor that allows you to temporarily block all damage, and, if you play like me, you rarely use any of the other vigors. I also felt no need to change gear very often.
- The Handymen (Infinite's version of the Big Daddy) can feel more like a chore to fight than a formidable enemy.
- Storywise, vigors make no sense in Columbia, as well as scavenging through trash cans to find weapon ammo.
- The game feels just a bit too repetitive for me to want to play it on the more difficult 1999 mode.

PS: I might have played about half the game unknowingly having equipped a gear that took 25% of my damage away when hip firing weapons. Don't make the same mistake that I did.

Overall, this game is a solid 3D platformer that is worth your time. I wouldn't say it's downright amazing, but it was hard to find problems with it when I mostly enjoyed the game.

Pros:
- The controls feel fluid and responsive.
- Gameplay varies heavily. Sometimes the game is a fast-paced platformer, other times it's about exploring an open world, and at one point it's even a genuinely scary horror game.
- The soundtrack is enjoyable.
- The story is fun (especially in Subcon Forest), and the game is full of cuteness and funny dialogue.
- There is a bunch of content that I still have not played, in spite of having "beaten" the game, and supposedly the developers are going to add even more content in the future.

Cons:
- The graphics are a bit lacking, though it is in a cartoonish way.
- There was no reason for the hook to be a badge (just a minor nitpick)

About 20 minutes in, I get 50 seconds into hard mode and fumble on a key.
Then I proceed to play for 30 more minutes, getting to 40 and 50 seconds on occasion.
Then I'm doing it1 I get to 59.79 on the hard mode and I only needed to block one more arrow.
I feel no more motivation to play this game again.
10/10

Don't get me wrong - Titan Souls is a pretty good game, especially in terms of its soundtrack and the ending. However, it is not quite worth the full price of $15.

Pros:
- All of the bosses play uniquely and are mostly pretty memorable.
- The art style is good, though it's definitely not the best or most visually appealing I've seen in an indie game.
- The game has a great OST that creates a sense of epicness.
- Each of the bosses feels supremely satisfying to beat once you've managed to pull of the trickshot required to beat them. They also feel like individual puzzles of finding out how to get in the position to hit their weak spot and defeat them.
- There's a hard mode to try if you want.
- You can roll.

Cons:
- The game revolves around getting 1-4 good shots on the bosses' weak spot, and ending the fight quickly. It sounds interesting to have a game focused on the idea of avoiding attacks until you are finally in the position to take out the boss, but it's frustrating in practice.
- Every time you die, the death animation is long and it takes time to walk back to where you were. The music also resets each time. It's annoying in a game where you're expected to die about 10 times per every fight that lasts twenty-five seconds.
- The game's length is short for a $15 game.
- Besides the music, there's nothing very special about this game that makes it stand out to me.

This game is short (took about 2 hours to normally finish without doing the extra missions), but also really fun while it lasts.

Pros:
- Once this game gets going, it's a really fun bullet hell that has just the right level of difficulty.
- The enemies have fun, varied patterns.
- Taking cover and rolling feel satisfying.
- The retro aesthetic looks polished and colorful.
- Most of the levels have unique achievements that make them feel even more varied. They also have time rankings and hearts to go for if you want to replay them.

Cons:
- The difficulty curve is a little weird, because getting used to the controls and mechanics takes about half an hour, but it feels really good once you do.
- The melee attack doesn't do that much damage, and the dodge roll makes it feel obsolete a lot of the time.
- Switching between weapons feels awkward, and some are a lot more powerful than others.

Definitely a steal for $2

Pros:
- Even after the warning at the beginning of the game you don't know what you're getting into and it's quite a ride.
- There is a good shock value and subversion of expectations, even when the game lets you know what you're getting yourself into. I was surprised that for a little more than an hour, they created what seemed to be a normal VN only to make it get really dark.
- There is a lot of good foreshadowing in this game.
- Some really good poems
- Really good ending that wraps up the game in a feel-good way that I was not expecting
- The game is really going to affect you emotionally, no matter how detached from it you are.
- Music is used really well to affect the mood

Cons:
- There's definitely a good message to be taken from the game, but it ends up a little confused.
- MatPat will make a game theory episode about this and it will all go down from there.
- Yuri's death was laughably cheesy when it happened.

I definitely recommend that you give this game a try, and go into it as blindly as you can.
