I'm a huge fan of the original, and I'm going to be blunt and honest. Is this like the original? Kind of. Does it accurately respresent the original? No. Not one bit. Yume Nikki was a game focused on exploration and small and simple puzzles here and there. This game is incredibly linear and there are a lot more puzzles this time around. Some of the exploration requres platforming which is a slog and sometimes very unresponsive. There are parts of the game where I died multiple times and the gaming just became downright frustrating and not fun at all. I'm currently stuck at the last bit of the game because death automatically puts you at the beginning of the whole thing. Meaningless traps and deaths with inexplicable "story" tie ins, a knife that is essentially useless, and ultimately a very watered down feeling experience. If you truly want to experience this game, I'd wait until it inevitably goes on sale. The price tag does not justify the sheer non-amount of content that you get. I was disappointed, despite every single try to want to like it.
