In terms of insane grinding and Pay2Win aspects I've never played a worse game than this one.

I've played the closed Alpha in 2012 and considering that 4 years have passed already they barely improved on the core gameplay aspects. Movement feels clunky, shooting feels unresponsive, graphics are mediocre, sounds are pretty garbage, barely any maps available (no, recycling already available maps over and over again doesn't cut it).

That would be all okay if it weren't for the ludicrous design decisions the developers make.
There are so many broken aspects in terms of weapon balance, the progression system and Pay2Win elements (straight up P2W in the literal sense, like having overpowered weapon builds which are not sustainable without paying money. Or having the ability to equip a second combat badge which are mighty powerful, again not sustainable without paying money) that I can't even be arsed to list them all in detail.

So what's left is a half decent game (has been much better at a certain point unfortunately) which is driven into the wall by its developers. If you want to have some mindless fun for a couple of hours then go for it. It's free after all. But you'll shortly discover what sorry excuse for an enjoyable game Heroes & Generals really is.

Terrible game, terrible port, Coop gameplay is a disaster. Ever wanted to regret spending money worth 2 cheeseburgers on a game? This is your opportunity to have this kind of experience.

Do not buy this game. The developers have completely lost their focus on what they're actually trying to achieve. Instead of adding and improving core features of an allegedly survival game, useless items like hats and vegetables are making their way into the game all the time. Meanwhile the devs are failing on introducing vital features which have been in the mod 2 years ago.

  • Persistency? Pretty much non-existent. It's a work in progress at best. Worked perfectly fine in the mod.
  • Vehicles? The recent implementation is laughable. Again, worked pretty fine in the mod within the limitations of the ArmA II base game.

Meanwhile the game is a bringing the term bugfest to a whole new level. It's simply riddled with bugs and glitches. And again, stuff that worked perfectly fine in the mod, is now broken beyond belief. Sounds for instance are cutting off on a regular basis. Good luck trying to make your way through Chernarus, when even the most basic stuff like hearing gunshots isn't working. The game is plagued with stuff like this. Don't even get me started on the Zombies. They are a horrible mess. Getting hit from invisible zombies from 50m away is no rare occurance.
The excuse of being Early Access and Alpha only goes so far.

Also: Once again a game from Bohemia with insane performance issues. Running into city and getting below 24 FPS? One would expect that either your CPU or GPU is bottlenecking and being maxed out with 100% load. Well guess what: Both CPU and GPU are close to idling. That's because something deep down in this failure of a game engine is broken. ArmA II and III share the exact same problem, yet Bohemia never gave a single ♥♥♥♥. The bottleneck is the spaghetti code within the game engine, which has never be fixed and most probably never will be.

If you're expecting a survival game with a compelling postapocalyptic athmosphere: Well, you should avoid DayZ. Because instead of adding stuff that actually fits into the environment, the devs are obsessed with adding masks from Payday 2, silly hats and unfitting weapons like the Steyr AUG. While this seems to be a minor problem, it just shows once again that the devs absolutely have no base line and common theme.

tldr version: Don't buy. Glitchfest, incompetent devs, significant performance issues which will never be solved, broken game which will most probably never be fixed. Wait for a proper release version, which presumably will come out in 2020. And even then expect it to be broken.
The Alpha excuse is a fallacy. You should also bear in mind that the devs already made bank with this game, while delivering next to nothing.
