This is one of those really relaxing games; you just hold the acceleration button, glide along the track, enjoy the music and scenery flying by and then you fly off on that one corner for the 50th time because you're too dumb to learn the ffffffahsdkjahskdj track.

Fun Multiplayer.

10/10 F-Zero experience.

I grew up with the original and have a lot of fond memories of it as I played it on my SNES for many hours.

While there's some nice additions like the voice acting and more dialogue for the main characters, this remake also has...issues. Lots of them. So many in fact, that it makes me ask if SE doesn't know any shame:

1: I don't expect this game to have full facial animations, but at least have the bully from the beginning not have the same aggressive frown on his face while he talks to you normally or is worried or scared. What even. Makes me feel like this faceless corporate machine needs to hire a human consultant to learn how to human.

2: It crashes a lot. Not constantly, but still a lot.

3: Main menu loses some graphics (black background components gone, etc.) when you switch resolution

4: Sometimes I see random squares with the texture being a bunch of random items when navigating the options menu (broken texture reference handling I presume)

4: Diagonal movement is an amazing addition until archers just stunlock you to death because they can hit you from anywhere. Same for the Undine cave boss. Bonus: Fire Palace where archers can now also set you on fire (which makes you unable to move as you are turned into a pincushion)

5: dying and healing at the same time should not work this way, should it.

6: MP absorb easily bugs out and gives every enemy the undead flag, meaning casting it once reduces your mp to *0*.

7: Animations easily freeze and make you unable to deal damage (thank goodness you can still slide away). This also seems to affect flying with the dragon - idling in midair for a minute and it just stops flapping its wings.

8: having a spell cast on you right before a screen transition makes you take damage on the next screen. Combine with autosave upon entering certain screens for maximum frustration and softlock potential.

9: Ring menus are now always at the center of the screen and no longer centered around the characters, making it harder to distinguish which is whose (you have to go by cursor colour now). Also the ring menu cannot be opened for characters that do.... basically anything but idling around, really.

10: Your ability to configure the party AI has been drastically reduced.

11: A lot of the 3D animations are copied straight over from the sprite animations, making movement/animations look very weird in places.

12: Sylphid's design has been redone, but....they didn't upgrade the icon accordingly, giving you a spirit that looks completely different from its icon.

13: Later in the game an island will rise from the ocean; in the original, there was an animation, in the remake, it just pops into existence and based on what you can see, it's really hard to understand what actually happened. There was a lot of potential here to make a good 3D cutscene, instead we got LESS than the original offered.

14: Just like in the original, the AI still gets stuck on everything :p

In conclusion: I'm sorry for the dev team behind this and all the stress they went through - you can clearly see a lot of good intentions and design decisions in some parts; but it looks like SE's decision to force the release at this stage was a mistake. Really needs more refinement and QA.

Good survival/horror game with a great story, but the very much unexpected horror elements and associated unexpected gameplay change are points that stop it from being a great experience, making it look a little misguided in what it tries to go for. This is NOT a game that can be labeled as "exploration driven adventure with survival elements". this is a 50/50 mix of survival+exploration and survival+horror parts.

p.s.: Loved the dolls despite everything. Now, please stop looking at me.

It's an exploration/platforming game set in a highly stylized world. Platforming becomes harder as you progress, but is by no means the point of the game. Quite enjoyable for people who are into exploration-style gaming since the environments are more complex than is normally expected for this kind of game, although probably dead boring for anyone else.
