...It's Fallout:NV. Seriously, do I have to write anything here? It's a masterpiece. A vast and wonderful sandbox of surprising depth.

So let's get the obvious out of the way first: Spelunky is a masterpiece.

Now for the harder question: With the original version of Spelunky still avaliable free, is the commercial, HD remake good enough that it's worth the splurge?

Well. Yes.

The core gameplay is the same for both, but Spelunky HD adds new levels (including a hidden level that's inside a giant worm's stomach!), new challenges, multiplayer (I never use this personally, but I know some do), and daily challenges. I can recommend Spelunky to literally anyone that likes video games - it's that solid.

So first, a disclaimer: My actual time spent playing is about four hours less than Steam thinks. It counts time with the launcher up, actually downloading the title or just... idling with the launcher up.

Past that disclaimer: Crossout's pretty fun! The adventure mode is a nice way to stretch the game past just "deathmatch with cars", and while your parts are pretty limited to start, you start picking up new bits as the game goes along. I can definitely recommend this.

So, I've just started playing hack.88, and already I'm kind of hooked.

The control scheme is simple - you constantly move forward, and turn by extending a grabber to the left or right with your mouse buttons. Grab a node, and you swing around it until you let go in another direction, or the same direction if you were just trying to stop yourself from hitting an enemy. The object, similarly, is simple. Pass over the hidden lines in a level to reveal a secret pattern, the quicker the better.

In a lot of ways, hack.88 feels like it could have been a game from the glory days of the 8-bit processor. Levels feel organic and easy to slip into, the game is very easy to pick up and play, and just tricky enough to really get a mastery of. Kudos to Filyaw, this one's a keeper.

Pros:
+Controls feel great.
+Wonderful level design.
+Great art.

Cons:
-Music is kind of 'meh', I guess? It's not bad, just doesn't add much to the game.
-...that's really all I've got.

Bottom line: A worthy splurge of four bucks. Try it out.

I picked up StS on a friend's recommendation, after watching a streamer named Jeremiah for a few hours. It looked good. I wasn't down with the description of the game as a Roguelike (there's no real exploration, even if "level layouts" are randomized) but it looked like a good deckbuilding games.

250+ hours later, I can genuinely say I'm hooked.

StS is just plain FUN. The three characters in the base game give you plenty of variance between play types, and each character has several deck archetypes they can stretch for - or just shun archetypes and go for "good stuff". Or "100% PURE JANK".

And that's not getting into the rather intense modding scene! Characters like the Disciple, the Runesmith, and the Glutton can easily double your potential playtime - HENCE WHY I'M OVER 200 HOURS. And not stopping anytime soon.

9/10. And I'm going back to playing now.

An absolute must-play. Between the brilliant set design, the character interaction, and the bafflingly brilliant wildlife AI, Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald is easily my favorite game of the year. It will leave you delighted, heart racing, and questioning the very meaning of consciousness (although not existence) for weeks. Truly a brilliant game - and they're doing it live, no pre-taping, like we did in the old days. You have to admire that kind of dedication to the craft. Even Telltale pretapes segments ahead of time for the sake of convenience these days. Get on it and download it NOW, because there's no telling how long Dr. Langeskov will be around - union action, you know.

9/10.

Pros:
+ The combat system is greatly improved over F:NV and F3. For the first time, it feels like reflexes and careful shooting matter more than VATS.
+ Great graphics, great sound.
+ For the first time it feels like people react more or less naturally when talking in a Fallout title.
+ The new system for modifying weapons and building settlements is far too much fun.
+ More wasteland exploration! More hours upon hours of probing through THINGS!

Cons:
- The Commonwealth feels much smaller than New Vegas, or the Capitol Wasteland.
- After two LEGENDARY disc jockeys, the new guy just isn't cutting it. Also, too many reused tracks on the radio.
- The new dialogue system is... it's awful. Terrible. Your choices aren't nearly as nuanced or deep as in the previous Fallout titles, and I could have lived without the PC being voiced.
- I didn't feel nearly as connected to the plight of the PC as in previous games. The quest to find (SPOILERS REDACTED) felt like something I was obligated to do, but not emotionally invested in. Granted, I feel it was a poor choice for a main quest in any free-roaming RPG, but it should have felt more... urgent, perhaps?
- Some... questionable storyline choices regarding throwbacks to Fallout 3.
-Low-quality shadows are INCREDIBLY ugly.

Now, all in all, I'd say this game is worth it if you like the old Fallout titles - there's good bones here, and it's sure to have an insane modding scene by year's end. 7/10.

After playing SolForge for a while, I can say that it's no Magic: The Gathering, but it isn't bad. You get one booster pack per day just for logging in, you can earn more by winning games, and there's a single-player campaign mode that - while fairly thin - still provides a good tutorial first and a rather crushing bit of challenge later on.

Will you run up against truly unfair decks online? Oh, hells yes. Will you eventually make crushingly unfair decks of your own? Sure. All in all, it's not a bad F2P - and I define that as "A F2P that you really don't have to spend money to enjoy."

PROS:
-Interesting gameplay.
-No need to spend money, though earning cards through winning will take time.
-Single-player mode intact.
-Also available on Android

CONS:
-Some minor balance issues, although some of the most broken cards have been taken care of over time.
-Repetitive music.
-Getting your first competitive deck together will certainly take a while.

Overall: 7/10. One of the better card games available on Steam.

After 175 hours, I finally beat the Moon Lord. In that time I've made friends (kinda), killed a whole lot of monsters (like, I have no idea how many), ate some ribs (from suspicious sources) and crafted SO. MANY. Sets of armor. Like. Entirely too many.

Terraria is straight up fun. It's a stealth Metroidvania, in that you don't really expect it to be a Metroidvania when you start. But everything you do is about getting better and different gear to go new places to kill new threats. Well - almost everything you do. There's a lot of just-goofin'-off potential there, especially if you have friends on the same world as you. You can make golf courses or adopt dogs or build stuff for the sake of building stuff. For someone like me, though, it's all about the exploration and building, and Terraria does that very well. And if you play in Journey mode, a lot of the grind of normal mode gets reduced.

9.5/10.

AAAAAAAAAH THE BOMB'S ABOUT TO GO OFF WHAT DO I DO KICK THE BABY OKAY I'M GONNA KICK THE BABY AHHHH IT JUST PEED ON ME-
What? Review?

Uh... okay. McPixel is... insane. It's utterly mad. The official levels are clever and frequently obtuse and hilarious, and I can honestly say that everyone should try it. The user-made levels tend to be simpler, but still worth a play through - even if they're not AS good, they're a good laugh.

If there's a downside, it's that this game is NOT designed for long playthroughs. Five minutes at a time works for me.

PROS:
-BOMBS
-KICKING THINGS
-MINIMALIST GRAPHICS THAT WORK
-EXPLOSIONS AND GAGS

CONS:
-BREAKS YOUR BRAIN OVER LONG PERIODS OF TIME
-I CAN NO LONGER STOP SHOUTING

OVERALL: 7.5/10 - PLAY IT PLAY IT PLAY IT!
