It's like somebody ordered Battlefield on Wish or Temu.

It's the best of the 80s-90s SSI games hands down. The others are still good but this one and Wake of The Ravager have aged the best.

The games themselves are untouched and unpolished. They're just dosbox ports of the IBM versions from what I can tell. If you own it on GOG you probably don't need it here. But what this version does offer is a companion app that sometimes works if you scale down and play in windowed mode at 720p in a 960x600 window. It has maps and stats that flank the window and add a bit to the QOL of the game. Problem is the app is wonky ATM and sometimes doesn't load even after down scaling. I'd assume it will be smoothed out down the road though. Still tickles the nostalgia G spot though and is worth the money just for that.

I roll ones constantly on both attacks and damage. Just like I do at the table playing live D&D.

10/10 Would roll 1s again.

The main game's crusader mode is just terrible. You can skip it but it just creates time gates on the overland map for no reason. They continually fix bugs to the point where the game is polished and is imo better than kingmaker in gameplay. The big win here is the Treasure Island DLC roguelike mode. I sunk the most time in Kingmaker's dungeon crawl and so far I'm doing the same with this game. The Dungeon Crawl DLC in this game is much more polished and the roguelike elements really add to the replayability.

6/10 for the main game and other DLCs.*

9/10 for Treasure of the Midnight Isles

*if you could disable crusader mode instead of automating it completely I'd give it an 8/10.

There's a lot contributing to a poor Battlefield experience here starting with SMGs can snipe someone out at a 1000 yards. The gun play is derpy still despite an overhaul. The snipers can't be dialed in for distances and drop seems to be nearly eliminated. There is only like 10 guns and about the same amount of gadgets and only a few of them are competitive at the moment. They gave us MOBA/Overwatch style characters with different abilities instead of traditional classes. The maps are uninspired and borderline boring. Overall the only thing that's good is Portal Mode where you can play a limited amount of a few older BF games using the new engine. I'd give this game six or more months to get its ♥♥♥♥ together. I'm hoping like 4 and V started off rough and ended up great, this game will too. Because right now this is like someone ordered a Battlefield game off of Wish.

Early Access Review
Ever since I played D:OS I wanted Larian to make a game in the Original Sin style with D&D rules. Well I got my wish, and I couldn't be happier with the result. I think a lot of others wanted the same. I understand purists might be upset but this is everything I've ever wanted in a modern D&D game. Minor D:OS elements only enhance the experience imo. I hope this sparks a renaissance in Turn Based D&D games and Larian becomes the SSI of the modern day.

This game is a really great CRPG that is true to Pathfinder ruleset. The game is nearly perfect with only one caveat the Kingdom Management is just awful filler and seems to waste a lot of time. Some people may like this kind thing but as sims go it's half way between Sim Kingdom and Hello Kitty Adventure Island. It's just assigning people to roles and then assigning them to tasks. Not a big deal, but the game forces months at a time in between campaigns that all you can do is further you kingdom. Couple this with quests with hidden timers you can find yourself wrapped up in Kingdom Management only to alter or ruin a current quest line because you took too much time. But if you don't spend enough time working on your kingdom it falls apart and it's game over. It get's frustrating. The good news is you can turn kingdom management on to auto mode and make it invincible so you can't "lose the game" because of it, the bad news is that feels like cheating. The actual game is amazing when you're out in the field exploring and kicking ass looting corpses. I am impatiently waiting for the turn based update and need to buckle down and stop playing alts to finish the last campaign before then.

I think VI is a great addition to the classic civilization series. Adding a civics tree was a good idea and works well. Being able to customize your bonuses beyond government type makes for some interesting playstyle changes from game to game. Soldier stacking to make armies is a great idea and works well. I miss the hold stacking mechanics of prior civ games and this was a great and balanced way to do it. Cultural Victory via tourist generation is neat and adds and interesting mechanics via creating greatworks to be stored in building in districts to generate more culture and tourism. The city-state system seems a little flat but the works relatively similar to V. District zoning is ok but seems a little too simplistic and I think they could have done more with it than what they have already. You are limited in districts but there are not many districts to choose from till late in the game so eventually your core cities can end up with all the districts so there isn't much long term planning involved. Religion just like in prior expansions seems pretty straight forward and simplistic in nature and doesn't really seem to add anything significant to the game overall. In my 2.5 play troughs I didn't even bother with it and it had not effect on my game what so ever. The diplomacy system is straight forward and about as complex as Fallout 4's dialogue system. The only interesting feature is the Casus Bellum option to justify wars and lower people warmonger reaction to you. Diplomacy is probably the second worst aspect of this game. The graphics are by far the worst and just lame, some kind of cell shaded art for areas in the "fog of war" zones and the revealed areas aren't that pretty either. Very cartoonish. Wonder animations and FMVs are jerky and wonky and not really impresive at all. At it's core it is still a civ game with all the decades old things that make it great. Overall it is worth picking up on sale at the very least I'd give it a solid 7.5/10.
