Early Access Review
After clearing as far as early access allows, I think I can give my opinion of current state of this game.

I would say that it's okay, but there is no point in using melee weapons when ranged deals damage on par with them and some of them have full screen range. It seems to be really easy to just take ranged weapon then pick a secondary weapon that has good weapon swap attack. Weapon swap attacks are basically extenders for your combo ender for whichever weapon you decide to land that.

As it's typical for the genre, at the start you have to do a couple suicide runs to get going. In this case, you want to get at least 2 charges to your healing flask to have enough health to survive. Unlike in a lot of games in this genre, you cannot stack your buffs, instead you can only have 3 active at the time. I find this quite limiting and I wish you could at least have 5 at the start. I happened to unlock fourth one just before finishing all stages so it seems you can get more after grinding.

This game does have co-op but I cannot say much of it since I haven't tried it yet. I heard that if any player dies others will get one shot unless they kill enough enemies. As if this game didn't favor ranged weapons already.

Since this is in early access, I expect it to get a lot of changes down the road but this is basically what I think of it in it's current state. I would give it neutral review but since that isn't allowed I will give it thumbs up.

In short game is good. Here's my favorite parts about it:
+Good amount of mechanics at your disposal
+Weapon variety is good
+Okay amount of different enemy types
+Controls feel responsive

Something I am not so fond of is the length of the stages. Some of them can take over 10 minutes.

Some of the track names are on incorrect songs in the steam music player, for example, The Garden and Station Blues are swapped. There is more of these errors and no FLAC only MP3. At least fix the track names and I'll consider changing this to positive.

Nice way to test if Spirit Island is for you without committing to the more expensive physical base game.

Does not currently have 2 biggest expansions available but is stated that first one is in the works.

Online multiplayer is bit clunky but serviceable.

Comparable to RPGMaker games like LISA, OneShot and Undertale. Recommended.

I really hate to play this game with low ranking characters and you have to level everyone separately.

It's a okay game with animations and presentation of a top notch 2D platformer.

I personally find the game a bit dull because it's almost directly emulating how Dark Souls combat usually plays out. Since there is less dimensional space it feels like a watered down version and added vertical movement isn't saving it. It also lacks all the weapon and build variations.

As far as difficulty goes, for a person that has played a lot of these types of games it can be quite easy to get past most obstacles and it has a problem of not increasing the difficulty because of branching paths, resulting in a somewhat dreary experience. I'll play this game more and update this review if I feel like I judged it too early.

As a bottom line, I would still recommend it since it's a nice looking game with good controls.
