It's overall good, but in the particular version you got less playtime and easier weapon repairment (well, craft benches everywhere).

don't buy it full price, but it on discount

Old review below.

Gaijin's ruining the economy. They wanted to decrease income from higher tier tanks and unfolder similar tanks that are previously grouped together. I don't have many problems with developers trying to milk a game they made, but so far Gaijin is on track to become extremely predatory in trying to force people to buy gold.

Sure, they backtracked on it so far, but I don't believe it. It's all PR non-answers. I'm convinced that Gaijin has almost dropped as low and vile as Wargaming's levels of greed. Until I see genuine changes within the in-game economy, this review shall stay a thumbs down.

War Thunder is a great game, but the developers are progressively getting worse every year. I still recommend it for now, but it's not recommended as in "HOLY SMOKES GO PLAY THIS AWESOME GAME!!1!" and more as "you need to try this, but just be wary if it's not to your liking."

Disclaimer: I'm a middle-tier player, not top-tier. The highest tank I have is the Type 61 in the Japanese tanks lineup, which is 6.7 Battle Rating (Compared to the M1 Abrams in 10.0 BR or somewhere close to that). This is an amateur review written by an amateur gamer. Don't expect perfection or opinions that 100% agrees with yours, because in the end this is My experience with the game, not yours. Leave a comment if you want to add on things that you experience or feel like needs mentioning.

I played since 2015. Started on German tanks like so many others for the MuH tIgEr experience, and honestly while it wasn't the best back then, the mechanics are so much better than World of Tanks. Still is, actually. The module simulation in War Thunder is simply unmatched by any other tank games, as it simulates crew counts, engine, transmission, gun modules rather than using Health Points. This means you can get shot once and die, or get shot 50 penetrating hits and live to kill another enemy. It really pushes skill and crosshair placement, because both you and your enemy can one-shot each other with the right shell and aim.

Content, fortunately (at least for now), keeps rolling in. Aside of the three nations (USA, Germany, Soviet), there are also British planes and tanks, Japan's, Italy, France, and even Sweden's. With new nations comes newer vehicles, which means some tanks are just better than its contemporaries, which means balancing issues. Dividing tanks from the 1920s up to the 2020s in 10 battle rating split into increments of X.0, X.3, and X.7 is pretty much spelling trouble. Tiger 1s facing 1970s tanks is NOT fun. While this isn't inherently bad since most of the tanks playing are somewhat balanced and able to fight each other, it still brings a lot to be desired. If the devs are reading this, please I bloody beg you: make the Battle Ratings go up to 30.0. You can even put WW1 tanks this way, and possibly restore those old French tanks with that puny-rumps gun.

I barely ever play planes and boats/ships at all, I mostly play Ground Vehicles. In Ground matches, players can still bring planes into battle, in limited numbers, which while yes they bucking sucks it actually adds quite the game mechanic, and the presence of Anti-Air vehicles somewhat curtails it's sheer OP-ness.

Obviously, the higher you go, the longer the grind is. Some tanks are unlocked with adequate shells to fight against tanks of your BRs, and some just... blergh. Anyways, the grind aspect of WT isn't TOO bad, but it gets a bit tedious nonetheless the higher up you go. Also, some nations have far worse grinds than others. France has a particular case of "crap gun" syndrome early on, especially without explosive shells it's not for the faint of heart. Likewise, Japanese and Italian tanks also have it quite rough, with them being just so-so compared to the early grinds of US and Soviet tanks. Germany, Britain, and Sweden have okay-ish grinds, but Germany has the both the bane and the boon of having so many tanks to choose from, which means longer grinding because you can't always skip one tank to get to the next tier. Look around the tech trees before you actually start grinding another nation, because some of them are harder than the others.

Now, as for why the devs are getting progressively worse. I couldn't really tell specifically what's wrong, because I'm not a bigshot youtuber affiliated with Gaijin themselves, but the monetization scheme feels a bit more greedy as time goes on. I get it, the game needs money to run, but once they started adding premium tanks that are ranked slightly below what their actual BR should be, it gets cheating-like OP real fast. Not a lot of players have them, and not all of them use it at the same time, but once you find one of these OP tanks (KV-1E for example) you're hard-pressed to kill them if they're playing on a good day.
Another thing was that the latest update, IXWA Strike, was launched with so many glaring bugs and issues, some of them didn't allow my game to run until it was patched. They're since fixed it, but it shows that they're slacking on playtesting stage of their update, and I'm scared to see this good bricking game being trashed by the devs. Now even more true, since Gaijin is focusing on Enlisted, their new game which implements both FPS shooting and slight WT mechanics.

To conclude my review, I love War Thunder with all my heart. The realistic tank internal model and damage system is just simply unmatched, because it's truly the trademark of this game. You go try and play World of Tanks and War Thunder, and compare which game do you like. World of Tanks is more arcade-y because it uses HP systems and smaller maps, but that means it's more fast paced and action-packed, also more competitively viable. War Thunder, while not realistic as in "real life like", hangs true to their commitment in making a realistic-ish yet still enjoyable experience. Matches takes 10-30 minutes or more (on Realistic Mode), tanks can either survive 10 shots or die from artillery, and sometimes you can sit there in boredom for 5 minutes reaching the frontlines, only to get shot by some enemy in the distance that you didn't see (or even vice versa!).

I wholeheartedly recommend you to go and play this game, just dip your toes in it and maybe play a few nations. However, Gaijin lately has been acting a bit erratically, so the developement ahead is going to be real shaky, turbulent, and unpredictable. I wouldn't splurge too much into the game unless if money really isn't an issue, but as for now the game is still worth playing and perhaps spending a few dollars into.
