Now my life is truly worthy,
Now, that my sinful eyes behold
This noble land, and also that earth
To which so much honour is given
That which I prayed for finally happened:
I have come to the place
Where God treaded as a man.
Beautiful lands, rich and glorious
Many of such I have seen before
You are the crown of them all
What miracles have come to pass here!
That a maiden bore a child
The Lord of all the Angelic Host
Was this not a perfect miracle?
Here He, being pure, let Himself be baptized
So that man could be pure too
There He let Himself be sold
So that we slaves might be free
Otherwise, we would be lost
Hail to you, Spear, Cross and Thorns!
Woe to you, heathen, this is an outrage to you!
Having humiliated the devil there,
Something no emperor could ever do,
He went back to His land,
And thus began the sorrow of the Jews:
That He, the Lord, broke from their custody
And He was later seen again
Whom their hands had beaten and pierced!
Christians, Jews and the heathens
All claim this as their patrimony
God should righteously decide this
By His trifold name!
The whole world is at war here,
But we hold the rightful plea
It is just that He grants it to us!
