Legitimately a hallmark study in platformer design and storytelling through gameplay (as well as incredible music and hours and hours of replayability) and if you review bomb this because the protagonist is trans then you're not only missing out on one of the greatest games in recent memory (maybe ever), but you're also a piece of ♥♥♥♥!

I think review bombing is stupid and when it comes to Battlerite and not Battlerite Royale, I'm a pretty big fan, so I wanna say that I reccomend it (look at my hours lmao). However, this Battlerite Royale BS is pretty stupid and actually inspired me to make this review, cause Stunlock, I love you, but you gotta fix this ♥♥♥♥.

For anyone who just sees review bombing, here's the current issue. Many months back Stunlock Studios announced a new gamemode for Battlerite - a Battle Royale gamemode. A few weeks ago, they announced that it wouldn't be ready for it's anticipated July release date. Just a few days ago, the big news dropped - Battlerite Royale would be it's own game, and one we would have to pay for as far as we currently know (at least for the duration of early access).

This put a pretty bitter taste in most player's mouths. The biggest complaint that most dedicated players have is how stale the game can get. There's a lack of champion variety compared to "traditional" MOBAS/ARTS, and there's less mechanical depth than most other competetive games (my favorite comparison is fighting games). When the Royale gamemode was announced most knew it was in response to how popular the genre has become, but were excited - at least it was something new in the game. I couldn't even complain - I've only ever spent money on Battlerite to get into Early Access, so any support past that was amaazing.

The comparison I think is most appropriate is this: imagine that your parents tell you that for your birthday this year, they're gonna get you a gift, and it's gonna be a good one. Now imagine if, a month before it, your parents tell you it won't be coming until after your birthday, and then after your birthday, they tell you that you have to do chores to get it, because it's a REALLY good gift. We don't care about the gift at this point, we feel like we've been a good kid that's already been doing chores and now we have to do more just to see if the gift was worth it - one that should've been free.

So, Stunlock, while I'm not QUITE to the point of review bombing yet, this entire fiasco isn't promising. I'm no financial/PR expert, but here are my four reccomendations for you:

- Owners of Battlerite get Battlerite Royale for free
- Announce that it'll be F2P after the early access, perhaps with a similar pay model to Battlerite
- Invite all owners of Battlerite access to a weekend/closed beta
- Give the owners of Battlerite SOMETHING (a discount, unique cosmetics, in-game currency)

These are ordered from what I think will be most effective to least effective in terms of making the community trust you again and stop review bombing.

I'm disappointed I even had to write this because Battlerite is currently one of my favorite games, but I don't think all is lost yet. Battlerite Royale is still awhile off from even entering closed beta, Battlerite still has support and is more promising than ever (I really enjoy the S2 changes thus far), and I'm looking forward to seeing what the roadmap has in store. However, if Battlerite Royale is any indicator to how I'll be treated as a player and a consumer, I don't look forward to the future of this game or Stunlock Studios.
