Mankind Divided offers the best gameplay of any Deus Ex yet. Though it would earn extra points if it offered melee weapons like the original. Nothing feels quite so badass as beating the entire game with a baton.

I feel more than a little disappointment by the fact we only get one city hub. Human Revolution garnered a certain amount of outrage by only offering two hubs, compared to Deus Ex’s three. Now we only get one? There’s no doubt this franchise is losing some of its potency. Relying on one hub location creates a lot of backtracking and repetition. By the end I felt rather annoyed by it.

The story is forgettable. The characters are even more so. The world is rich, but doesn’t feel rife with conspiracy around every corner, like the original.

Ultimately, the best Deus Ex game we got this year was Dishonored 2. That felt marvelously inspired. This felt lackluster, however refined the gameplay was. Still worth your time, especially at a reduced price. But I can't help but admit Mankind Divided did not meet my expectations.
