Killer game for VR! Not only is it a hit at parties, but it is one of the few VR games that I enjoy enough to play solo, and it becomes a great workout and a ton of fun when you get to the higher difficulties.

The world is dying for a great space sandbox game, and this is not it.

Like many others, I have been severely dissapointed with No Man's Sky.

I encounted somewhat annoying performance issues - though I don't have an amazing system, I can run other demanding titles such as GTAV / FO4 / DOOM 2016 much much better than NMS, and I expected a lot more given the percieved visual quality.

The diversity of the planets is extremely disappointing. After only a few planets you will pretty much know what to expect, and new planets will most likely just be different colored variations on things you have already seen.

A big problem is that each planet is basically the same small piece of enviroment repeated over the entire planet's surface. This is not to say that it is actually repeating or tiled, but each planet really only has like 3 or 4 colors and there is no point at all to explore more than a few minutes on any particular planet, once you land you pretty much know what the whole planet looks like.

For instance, there are only a handful of different types of vegetation and rocks, and you will see them all pretty quickly. From there the variation will only be in size and color. I will say the animals are relatively interesting (compared to everything else) however they are basically useless in terms of gameplay and you also quickly see animal parts getting reused (t-rex body, wings, etc)

Theres also a lot of interface/control issues and graphical bugs that just make me amazed that I paid $60 for this game.

If you just want a good sci-fi space exploration game like I did, this is not it and you will just have to wait for another game.

(If you must try No Man's Sky, wait until it is very cheap on a sale and has been patched a lot, don't pay more than $20 for this.)

This game blew my expectations out of the water.

The story in this game is absolutely amazing, second (IMO) only to To The Moon, by Freebird Games.
The puzzles are really interesting, and while some are not necessarily intuitive at first, they really do a great job of setting the atmosphere and tone of the game.
The voice acting is excellent, and feels like it really embodies the emotions (or lack thereof) of the characters.
The overall style is very creepy and dark (in a visual and literary sense), and gives the game a great feel of urgency and suspense.

Criticisms:
The puzzles can be pretty difficult at times, but reading and watching carefully will help you a great great deal. There were quite a few times where I had missed/misread something that led me off course for a puzzle.
The combat in the game definitely left me wanting a bit more, not more of it, but better control.
When played with the mouse, you cannot aim just by pointing and clicking (which would be far too easy, requiring the enemies to be harder somehow), so instead when you hold down right click to aim, your mouse aims your gun based on vertical motion alone. Regardless, I did not try the mouse controls for very long but they felt quite unnatural.
A gamepad works much better, and the support for it is quite good, besides a bit of aiming issue (mostly due to my controller's (and probably many cheaper/old controllers) relatively bad joysticks)
The whole "aim at something to interact with it" might seem kinda of lame at first, but it really adds to the game by making you focus on what you are trying to do.

My final, and biggest criticism is that the game seems to have quite a few game-breaking bugs.
Over my playthrough, I had to restart the game 3 or 4 times, from being stuck on ladders and the game just pseudo-freezing when walking into a new area -- and possibly many others. While it is really unfortunate and quite immersion breaking, it was not extremely detrimental and never happened during an important/intense time in the game, just when walking around looking for clues to puzzles.

Even with all that though, I think anyone who gives this game at least 10 minutes will want to play it all the way through, and would recommend it to anyone.

Excellent story, puzzles are satisfyingly difficult, and voice acting is great. Amazing game for the price!

Excellent game. Very strategic, balanced, and fun. Community is excellent too, a lot of really nice people willing to help out new players and in almost every game people are using voice chat to strategize.
